Parking in NYC

Where to park (and how much will it cost) is a common question for visitors to NYC. The following is posted with permission from Phaelon56:

"Hotel parking will vary wildly in price from $25 to $60 per night including taxes. The perimeter lots are worth considering - out on 11th Ave in the 40's if I recall. There's a nice secure indoor garage on 43rd just path 10th heading west - it's the first parking garage sign on the block (can also enter from 44th). Price for 24 hours is $16 including all taxes. Over in the east side in midtown it's much tougher to find a bargain - I can't find anything much under $25 per night over there. If the Garment District is convenient, there's a garage on 38th between 8th and 9th that is about $18 for 24 hours but it's not open all night - closes at 11 PM. They have an exit onto 37th that makes for a relatively easy exit to the Lincoln Tunnel or West Side Highway. It's a more central location the place out on 43rd but getting out to the tunnel takes longer at busy times of day."

In summary, parking at your hotel can be a very EXPENSIVE proposition, and the longer your stay the more it makes sense, and the more you'll save, by parking at a non-hotel parking garage. Please add any other suggested garages to this thread.

If you're coming into the city from the Lincoln Tunnel for the day on a weekend (or even during the week) and want convenience, the best price in the entire Times Square area is on West 40th just past 8th Ave heading towards 7th (by the backside of PA Bus Terminal). Take an immediate right on 40th after leaving the tunnel and look for the first parking garage on your right after crossing 8th. It has Hertz sign and offers the best price for "any 12 hours" that you can get in the area - usually $15 including all taxes on a weekday (good price for this area). They close at 11 PM so be careful if you're staying in late for a show.

Even if they forget to put out the "Weekend Special" sign, they are REALLY cheap on weekends - usually $8 incl taxes for all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

See Parking Rates at Various Garages (CLICK)

Enter your arrival/departure information at the above site and you will be shown the rates for that timeframe at various garages. Allows you to reserve a space at a given garage as well. I just put in some random dates for an entire weekend and saw rates that ranged from $30 to $80, so seem like a good site to consult in order to save some money.

If you're coming in to the city for the weekend, you can often find parking on the street. On the east side for example in the 50s, parking is allowed after 6pm, 7pm and 8pm depending upon the street. Arrive maybe 30-45 minutes prior, sit in the car (bring something to read), then when the time has come, just leave. There are so many doormen buildings that you can feel a real sense of security with your vehicle. Just food for thought.

After extensive research on parking in NYC and elsewhere, here are some things that I have found for the cheapest parking:

www.iconparking.com

and right now Hertz has a special if you have a rental car through them and are coming into New York City, you can park at one of their rental locations for just $12.00 (per 24 hours, tax included). www.hertz.com/special_07/index.jsp then click on Deals By The Day, then click on Hertz offers Discount Parking in Manhattan.

For Airport Parking (anywhere):

I have found that www.airportparkingreservations.com always has the best rates.

Hope these help!
