B-Jagged Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 I have been looking for 2 rooms, 2 adults in each in MTE/MTW/MTS/MTC during 8/26-8/29 4 star.I have done several rebids over the last week at 4 star levelstarted MTE 125, added MTW 130, added MTS 140 rejectedrepeated MTE 145, added MTW 150, added MTS 155 rejectedI have read numerous post and biding suggestionsJust curious about bidding one room at a time or maybe splitting Sat night from Sun & Mon?BryanAlso whats the best way to get from Newark Airport to Midtown for four adults, without getting hosed, :).
B-Jagged Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 I have tried several red bid patterns and still no luck up to $161.Wondered if I'm just looking to soon and Hotels haven't released rooms?Or is bidding for 2 rooms a problem?Or is it the Sat, Sun, Mon combination?Or the time of year in NY?What should I expect to pay for a 4 star during that time?
B-Jagged Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 I have been trying to book 2 rooms 8/26-8/29 4* for several daysUsing the link through Savingsbarn.comAlternating bidding pattern daily
thereuare Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I would actually hold off bidding this for awhile...Rates in NYC during the summer are usually very cheap (relatively speaking, by NYC standards) and unless something is happening in town during this time (i'm not sure when the US Open or any other similar event/conference) then the amounts you have already bid would typically be high enough.I would book a cancellable back-up just to protect yourself from rates going higher for some unknown reason, but i'd recommed a 1BR suite at the Beekman Tower for $188/nite or you can try to find something similarly priced and refundable on your own (we have hotel-direct links to most major hotel chains in our support page) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
B-Jagged Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 Thanks for the advice, I was wondering if I was just way too early. I have looked at several 3 star hotels that I could book with a $25 a room cancelation fee prior to 72hrs. They are in the area's I wouldn't mind.I have read many reviews from several sites, just wondered your views on the following....AmertaniaAmsterdamBentlyDoubletree MetropolitanCarnagie SuitesMilford PlazaWellingtonI have concerns about a few of them but could get rates under $150.BryanAKA:B-Jagged
blkjck1 Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Actually, you have the start of the US Open on August 29. Proud to be Canadian!
B-Jagged Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 So does the US Open usually screw up availability all over, or just in certain area's?"I guess I need to practice my tennis again"BryanAKA:B-Jagged
thereuare Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 It doesn't "totally screw availability" but it is an event that increases demand during an otherwise slow period as visitors from all over the world come to see the matches (and it's a GREAT event that is a lot of fun too!)There are a few hotels in your list above that i too would have some concern over, and as you have a high probability of cancelling this back-up, i wouldn't book anything that has a cancellation fee.
