Dsnow0819 Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 ...Sorry I am new to this forgive me if this belongs somewhere else. I just have a few questions.I want a downtown hotel close to Busch Staduim for July 14-16 (Fri.-Sun.). I need one room for three people. Should I not try priceline b/c of a double opp. or is that easy to work around? I am looking for a three or four star hotel. I have looked at the hotels bidded on in the past. Can I use this as a guide for what I might get or not even think about it? Thanks for the help and any others suggestions for a first timer would be appericated.
thereuare Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Regarding the double occupancy issue see the related thread in our PRICELINE FAQ. It may not be a large risk, but how would/could you handle a situation if you get a room with only one bed? It's a risk only you can decide if you (and those in your party) are willing to take.If you're not willing to take any risk, you can try Hotwire which allows you to search for up to quad occupancy.Let us know your thoughts regarding the above and we'll take it from there. Dsnow0819 Posted April 14, 2006 Author Report Posted April 14, 2006 I will probably go with hotwire. I have a question about that. They have a 3.5 star for $57/nite. I have firgured out that it is probably the millennium, but I have read very bad reviews on the hotel. They have a 4 star for $145. My question is will the 4 star price come down or is that about average?Has anyone used priceline in STL and gotten a room with two beds?
thereuare Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Have you figured out the 4* hotel? Is the Millenium so bad that this 4* property is worth 3x as much?I'm sure many have gotten rooms in St. Louis thru Priceline and received two beds, but there is always a chance that for your particular stay the hotel you receive is at or near full occupancy and can only accomodate you with a room with one bed. Before booking the 4* at $150+ (which sounds high to me) i would sooner wait to see if a different 3.5* property is offered in the weeks to come.Exactly what are the amenities that you're seeing for the 3.5* and 4* properties? (as i may have an additional option for you) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Dsnow0819 Posted April 14, 2006 Author Report Posted April 14, 2006 Not really seeking anything in particular like high speed internet or anything. I am just looking for a nice hotel downtown close to busch staduim (a pool would be nice but not a deal breaker). I just read terrible reviews on tripadvisor.com about the millenium so that makes me hessitant.I guess my question is how often do they change the hotels/prices for the same dates? I thought they were pretty much set in stone.
thereuare Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Exactly what are the amenities that you're seeing for the 3.5* and 4* properties? (as i may have an additional option for you)I asked in order to confirm the id of the 3.5* property, as well as to try to identify the 4* property (what if the reviews of it too are bad?) I also asked because, as i stated above, i may have another idea for you, but need to know the amenities you're seeing to know if it is possible or not.Hotwire will only show one hotel at each star level per zone, so other hotels may replace the ones you are seeing if:1) the current hotel offered raises rates, sells their allocation of rooms at the current rate, or pulls their inventory2) another hotel loads rates into the system at rates lower than the current hotels Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Dsnow0819 Posted April 14, 2006 Author Report Posted April 14, 2006 I thought you were asking what things I was looking for. The 3.5 star has restuarant, fitness center, pool and business center. The 4 star restuarant, fitness center, pool, business center and high speed internet.
thereuare Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 This far in advance i don't think the $145 rate at the 4* (Hyatt?) offers enough of a discount to lock in this property... i would book a refundable back-up in the meantime and see what is offered by Hotwire in another 2 weeks. ganafu Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I'm originally from STL, and my guess is the 4* hotel is the Adam's Mark which is right downtown. I'm not sure how closely you've searched on a map, but the Millenium is immediately next to Busch Stadium and if you're on the west/southwest side and high enough up, you can see into the stadium (buy binoculars and save on tickets!).Being from there, I've never stayed downtown but I can't believe the Millenium is all that horrible. After all, it's really just a bed and a bathroom that I'm usually looking for. The Marriott is also only 2 blocks from the ballpark and is probably also a 3.5* hotel.
Tino Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 It's a bit late to follow-up, but for future reference, the Millemium IS that horrible. They have separate floors quarantined just for Priceline members, and they are dreadful. My room was -below- lobby level, facing the dumpster, and the room was filthy. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile. No other room was available, as they were sold out that weekend. The $29 Priceline rate that I got was a ripoff. I wouldn't stay there for free. Unfortunately, since Priceline considers it a 3*, you should ONLY bid 4* in St. Louis.
