I was trying to get the Millennium Hilton downtown for this Saturday night (4/8), but have been rejected bidding up to $121.

Any suggestions for an equally nice property for around that price range? Location is not too important as long as the subway is nearby. Upper West Side might be especially convenient since we will be in that neighborhood Saturday night.

A non-crummy 3* is perfectly fine. I would like to avoid getting an overrated smelly, dusty, cramped room with a window on the trash chute, though. Bidding 4* avoids that problem, but it's an expensive solution.

even then i think it will be very tough to get a 4* hotel at $120 or less for these dates... have you tried bidding in any of the midowtn areas?

Now rejected up to $129 in Downtown and UM/CPS.

For comparison, the Millennium Hilton is $199 on their own Web site for that night.

I could save a few bucks by staying in Jersey City and taking the PATH in, since the hotels there seem to get good reviews. Any ideas on a bidding strategy to minimize waiting for the PATH on Saturday night / Sunday morning? I have never taken the PATH before.

After midnight, but probably not after 2am; I seem to find myself old and lame lately.

I suppose a 2-to-3 am return to the hotel is not absolutely out of the question, but I am happy to plan for the before-2am case.

Here is the PATH SCHEDULE.

From WTC:

Friday (really Saturday am): trains run frequently (every 10 minutes or more frequent) until 12:52am and then switch to a every 30 minute schedule

Saturday (really Sunday am): trains run frequently until 12:22am and then switch to an every 30 minute schdule

If you find yourself in midtown the 33rd Street train to Hoboken (or Journal Square) runs frequently until 12:40am on Friday nite at which point it switches to an every 30 minutes schedule... runs frequently until 2:42am on Saturday nite at which point it switches to an every 30 minute schedule.

Depending upon which hotel in Jersey City you receive will determine which train you want.

Did some more bidding tonight after convincing myself that 3* hotels are all likely to be just fine,

but I was rejected bidding up to $143 for a 3* in Downtown / MTS / MTW / UM-CPS / UWS.

Thanks for the PATH information, that is really helpful.

rejected bidding up to $143 for a 3* in Downtown / MTS / MTW / UM-CPS / UWS.

Bid 3* MTS at $133 and was re-rejected.

Re-bid 3* for the same set of zones (Downtown / MTS / MTW / UM-CPS / UWS) at $140 and got:

Millennium Broadway Hotel

145 West 44th Street

New York, New York 10036-4012

212-768-4400

$140 + $30.71 = $170.71 total.
