MikeInMass Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I was trying to get the Millennium Hilton downtown for this Saturday night (4/8), but have been rejected bidding up to $121. Any suggestions for an equally nice property for around that price range? Location is not too important as long as the subway is nearby. Upper West Side might be especially convenient since we will be in that neighborhood Saturday night.
thereuare Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Your only chance is probably with Priceline and even then i think it will be very tough to get a 4* hotel at $120 or less for these dates... have you tried bidding in any of the midowtn areas? MikeInMass Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 A non-crummy 3* is perfectly fine. I would like to avoid getting an overrated smelly, dusty, cramped room with a window on the trash chute, though. Bidding 4* avoids that problem, but it's an expensive solution.

For comparison, the Millennium Hilton is $199 on their own Web site for that night.
MikeInMass Posted April 4, 2006 Author Report Posted April 4, 2006 I could save a few bucks by staying in Jersey City and taking the PATH in, since the hotels there seem to get good reviews. Any ideas on a bidding strategy to minimize waiting for the PATH on Saturday night / Sunday morning? I have never taken the PATH before.

MikeInMass Posted April 5, 2006 Author Report Posted April 5, 2006 After midnight, but probably not after 2am; I seem to find myself old and lame lately.I suppose a 2-to-3 am return to the hotel is not absolutely out of the question, but I am happy to plan for the before-2am case.
