erinys Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Copied relevant points from my review on Tripadvisor. The lobby was lovely except for the service. I was flung a sheet of directions for the Camden waterfront upon asking. We had called ahead to request a king, but the representative gave us a double with a view, with sunlight streaming in that woke me at 6AM.The standard room with 2 double beds had cigarette burns in the rug, dirty metal air vents that were falling out of their holes in the drywall, and loose makeshift frames for cutouts in the wall where repairs had obviously been made and left open in expectation of future repairs rather than repairing the drywall. The door to the room was swollen or too big, so I had to press my full bodyweight against it to open and slam to close. I did request a smoking room, but apparently they don't bother to use ionizers, Ozium or Smells Be Gone to clear the air. The shade on the bedside lamp had been bent or crushed in the past, and the tar and nicotine stains had been settling on it for more than 5 years. The sink outside the bathroom may have been marble, but it was chipped. The toilet had one of those flimsy, bending plastic seats. The tub was small but I thought clean until my husband found a washcloth hanging over the shower rod with lots of hair in it. Water pressure was fine and got as hot as we needed. Getting an elevator didn't take long, and the walls were not too thin. Parking was free. High speed internet service was available, I believe for free. The bar downstairs was pleasant but small and expensive with good service and a kitchen that closed before 1am. Room service trays from the night before were still on the hall floors the following morning. There had been an error in our billing, and at 6AM they shoved a billing slip through the side of the swollen door (may have contributed to waking me). I went to the front desk and lovely well-spoken young gentlemen (David I think) explained the initial staff had made an error and insured it was resolved. It should not be considered a 3 star hotel - surely that was for the Hilton name alone. I bid on a 3* in the same area recently, and was relieved it was not this hotel. It wasn't horrendous, just not good for the price or what a 3* should be.
