JLKitchens Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Hi all,Im heading out to Las Vegas for some interviews. I just graduated from college so needless to say im broke. I am looking at checking in March 26 and checking out March 29 (3 nights). I am seeing a 3* on the strip for 55 per night. The only amenities it shows, however, are casino, restaurant and pool. Any thoughts?THANKS!!
thereuare Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 North Strip or South Strip? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
JLKitchens Posted March 22, 2006 Author Report Posted March 22, 2006 Wow,Sorry, I cant believe I forgot that. It is in North Strip. Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 This hotel has not yet been idenetified. Looking a the hotels that have already been identified and other hotels that are in this area, maybe this could be the Riviera... but that is really just a guess. If you look on the South Strip there is a 3* which matches the Excalibur and it's only $5 more per nite... i'd sooner go with that than an unknown 3* on Hotwire (which is a hotwire rating which can often go 'either way')Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help. JLKitchens Posted March 22, 2006 Author Report Posted March 22, 2006 Thanks Thereuare,I have checked the Las Vegas convention checker and it seems like there tons of conventioners in town. Therefore, do you think Priceline would be a bust? Do you think it would pay off to keep following Excalibur and bidding on priceline until the last minute hoping for a good deal on a 4* or would just take the Excalibur now? Judging from Tripadvisor some of these 3*'s on the strip look a little shady. Even though I am going for interviews I would like a nice place since it is my first trip to Vegas in a while. Thanks!!
JLKitchens Posted March 22, 2006 Author Report Posted March 22, 2006 Just a quick follow up,Now I am seeing a 3* North Strip, same dates 3/26-3/29 for $55Best ValueCasinoRestaurantPool Fitness SpaAny ideas?
thereuare Posted March 22, 2006 Report Posted March 22, 2006 Nothing has been reported with these amenities.Circus Circus is known to use different amenity icons from search to search, so it is possible that this is that property and it is the same hotel that you saw the other day, but with slightly different amenity icons than previously reported. JLKitchens Posted March 24, 2006 Author Report Posted March 24, 2006 Well... this sucks. So I couldnt find any deals at all for this time, Las vegas is packed with conventions. I had been trying numerous bids on the strip for 4* all the way up to 79 and all had been rejected. Finally went to 3* on the strip today (for Mar 26-29) for 65, it was rejected. From the Priceline lists it looked like there were only 2.5 and 4* in west strip, so I bid. Lo and Behold I am stuck with the Gold Coast for 59 dollars a night. Not only that, but it is listed for 48 a night at Tripres.com. I have been on the phone with priceline for nearly an hour trying to get them to honor the price either there or for 49 on vegas.com AND THEY WONT DO IT! On Priceline's price match guarantee it states that it is for the nightly rate and not for fees and taxes associated with either priceline OR the competitor. They won't honor that now, they are doing the total with fees and are only refunding me 21 dollars. I could have gotten it for nearly 20 dollars cheaper through TripRes.com. Needless to say I am very frustrated. And in addition, tripadvisor.com rates this as a 2* property... I think I am screwed all around. So I hope someone can take this advice and NOT bid for a 3* in West of Strip unless you want the Gold Coast for more than you would pay. PRICELINE'S CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL.On a different note, if I am extremely nice at check-in... do you think there is any chance in the world they bumo me to Barbary Coast on the strip if I asked very nicely and offered to pay the difference for their published rates versus what I paid?ARGH :) :) :o
dahammer Posted March 24, 2006 Report Posted March 24, 2006 yup, priceline only refunds the difference between your bid and the hotel's rate....hey, look on the bright side, the Gold Coast is right across the street from the Palms, maybe you could smooth your way into the Palms' pool. Make sure you check out the ghostbar on the 55th floor, great scenery at night, and the views of the strip are pretty good as well :) The Gold Coast has a shuttle bus to the strip or its a short taxi ride to the strip. Lastly, the Buffet at the Gold Coast is a really good value. As far as going over to the Barbary coast, it doesn't hurt to ask!
thereuare Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Sorry to hear of your disappointment. This appears at the top of every PRICELINE HOTEL LIST:DO NOT USE THIS LIST to determine what areas to add when attempting to bid again within the 24 hour windowFrom Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time.Hope your luck is better in Vegas.
