WillTravel Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 Plusses:Hotel has a lobby that is a bit small, but nice in the same way as some Doubletrees and Holiday Inns.Room was good, and had a microwave and fridge.Although not downtown, there are several buses that you can easily catch to get there quickly. You can use the computer in the lobby for free. It's Windows 98 but it's fine for a quick check (although I'm not sure about the security). There's a supermarket about two blocks away - Fairway Market.Minuses:Hotel has a strip club attached, and there's a sign right out front advertising the performers. I think this is very unusual for a reputable chain hotel. No one on the trip was shocked, and it really didn't make a difference to our stay, but who wants to stay in a hotel with its own strip club? (Okay, I will if it's cheap enough and there's no hassle, but I don't like the aesthetics.)I've never had problems getting a room with two beds. But the clerk was a bit agitated when she told me that Priceline had actually booked me with one bed, and if it hadn't been for a cancellation, they wouldn't have been able to get me a room with two beds. I was grateful they had changed this for me, and I know it's a risk with Priceline. But given my savings in this case were so minimal, I'm not sure I'd take the risk again. So does this mean no more bidding in Victoria? I'm not sure.I had bid for a 1*, and the Red Lion was supposed to be an upgrade to 2*. But I prefer the Accent Inn, which is 1*. The advantages of the Red Lion over Paul's Motor Inn, another one of my 1* favorites, were the larger beds and microwave and fridge.
