Cobber Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 I was bidding on a room in London for one night trying to target the Thistle Charing-Cross using bid wins that had been posted at BetterBidding.com.Bidding for only one night must put you at a disadvantage because bids at and above previous win amounts were finding no love in the Mayfair-Soho area. Previous bids were $75, $85, $95, and $105, all in the Mayfair-Soho area only. Finally I raised the bid to $107 and added Bloomsbury and managed to get The Cumberland hotel which is technically right across the street from Mayfair and Hyde Park. Location looks great and overall I am happy to get a hotel so close to Mayfair-Soho. The rate listed on the website is $295 USD per night so we still realized a massive savings. I'll try to remember to post a review as I haven't seen too many Cumberland wins on the website.Note: I did start the majority of my bidding at the Savings Barn except, unfortunately, the last bids. Here are the win details...4* (Bloomsbury) The Cumberland$107 ... 3/20/06Check-In Date: Monday, March 20, 2006 Check-Out Date: Tuesday, March 21, 2006 Hotel Name: The CumberlandGreat Cumberland Place London, United Kingdom 44-870-333-9280Summary of Charges Your Offer Price: $107.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $107.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $26.93 Total Charges: $133.93

Cobber Posted March 20, 2006 Author Report Posted March 20, 2006 I actually made this reservation for my parents who are at the hotel now so I don't have first hand experience. They said the hotel is very modern compared to other London hotels and considerable renovation is still underway but it is not affecting their stay in any way whatsoever. There are plasma TV's in every room and the hotel is very 'wired' for technology.I wish I could say who the hotel is affiliated with but I just don't know. I have never seen it won previously on BetterBidding. I don't know how to confirm this besides calling, or emailing the hotel.Regards.
