15.challenger Posted January 16, 2020 Report Posted January 16, 2020 Hello, We are looking for 2 rooms in Manhattan, NY (as close to Times Square as possible, so looking at Times Square, Central Park South areas). Dates: April 22 to 25 (can't change dates) Star Rating: 4* or 4.5* City Zone: Manhattan - Times Square, Central Park South Room Rate: hopefully around $200/night per room including resort fee. Max. we can shell out is $250 including resort fee and taxes unless there is a significantly better option for $10-$20 more. Amenities: Looking for free internet Express deal on priceline gives Parker hotel for $202/night per room excluding resort fee and taxes. I was wondering if any better options are available. Thank you.
thereuare Posted January 16, 2020 Report Posted January 16, 2020 Welcome to BetterBidding! I'm local to the area so feel free to ask any other questions you may have, but some thoughts/suggestions: You don't really need (or perhaps want to) stay as close as possible to Times Square as you will likely spend far less time there than you think... what you really want, imo, is a midtown hotel that is close to a subway station (and ideally with multiple subway lines at that station). This way you can easily get to Times Square as well as most other places in the city that you intend to visit. With the above noted, in addition to the Parker New York which you have found, i'm seeing the following: 4* HOTWIRE Madison Square Garden for $158 Pet friendly Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Restaurant(s) Business center Internet access Accessible for visually impaired Accessible for hearing impaired Accessible path of travel ==> Stewart Hotel... used to be the Affinia Manhattan up until a few years ago at which point it was renovated and became the Stewart. Not the fanciest hotel in NYC, but recent reviews are solid, it's a bit easier on your budget, and the location is excellent (right across the street from Penn Station so multiple subway lines to get you just about anywhere you need to go) and is also walk-able to Times Square. 4.5* Midtown East (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $189/nite with: Fitness Center Airport Shuttle Restaurant No Smoking Rooms/Facilities Free Internet ==> San Carlos Hotel... a bit less convenient than the one above but reviews are excellent. The location is certainly do-able, but do keep in mind you're giving up a little in terms of location for the quality of hotel. 4.5* Madison Square Garden - Convention Area (confirm your dates on the landing page) for $200/nite with: Pets Allowed Fitness Center Restaurant No Smoking Rooms/Facilities Free Internet ==> Crowne Plaza HY36... another hotel with excellent reviews, around the same price as the Parker and San Carlos, so another one to consider. Fairly new hotel (about 2-3 years old) that has a great location (2 blocks from Penn Station and less than a 10 minute walk to Times Square) and as i mentioned, gets terrific reviews. 5* HOTWIRE Times Square for $179 Free internet Pet friendly Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Restaurant(s) Business center Accessible for visually impaired Accessible for hearing impaired ==> InterContinental Times Square... good location if trying to be close to Times Square and want to say you were at a '5 star' hotel, but i think some of the other hotels above (Crowne Plaza HY36) offer a better value 4* HOTWIRE Midtown East for $138 Pet friendly Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Restaurant(s) Business center Internet access Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom ==> Doubletree Metropolitan... a little to far east to be considered ideal, but still do-able. The hotel is clean but otherwise a bit tired and 'meh', but the price is pretty good if budget is your primary concern. Any of the above of interest? Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know your thoughts (or how it goes if you take one of the above) and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Plebian Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 I would agree with Thereuare that you don't have to be right by Times Square to easily get to a show, etc., in a timely fashion. We took our family to New York several years ago. We stayed mid-town East and were happy with the location. Regarding two rooms: I presume you know that Priceline only guarantees beds for 2. You did not share details about your traveling plans. If you are a family of 4 and would normally share a room to save money, be aware that Hotwire WILL guarantee beds for up to four guests, but ONLY if you select 4 guests on your search. So again, if this is of interest to you, run a search on Hotwire for four guests to compare with the ones above.
