dahammer Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 I'd say that this could be the Inn at Chester Springs ....although its not actually in Chester Springs, two words that can add $50,000 to the asking price of a home!! :) this was a former Holiday Inn, then a Best Western that decided to go it alone without the banner or expense of a franchise. This is shown on the board without the Fitness Center icon, but this hotel does have an exercise room. This could also be the Sheraton Great Valley as well, however, it has not yet been reported. The Sheraton Great Valley has been reported on the Priceline hotel list, so you may want to go this route and start off with a lower bid. The Hotels in this area are busy during the week, so on weekends, they aren't as full and just may accept a low bid. What is the Hotwire rate for your dates of travel?
seningen Posted March 1, 2006 Author Report Posted March 1, 2006 I was poking around Hotwire -- and posted last night -- I think it was $59.Sheraton GV was $144 online, $89 through my cousin's wedding group rate. There is only one potential free rebid (maybe 2 for 3*) in the area, but the second one had a 2.5* and was a good bit aways -- thisarea just feels like a place where hotels might pop in and out of PL --so I really didn't want to take too many chances.Anyway, first bid of $45 hit. So I might have gotten lower.I'm sure I'll have family begging me to bid for them -- so I can try a little lowerfor them and see what works.even at $45/nt -- I'm pleased.THEREUARE -- you might want to cross link this to the HOTWIRE -- althoughit hasn't been "proven"thanks, mike
dahammer Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I'm sure I'll have family begging me to bid for them -- so I can try a little lowerfor them and see what works. just let them know that priceline bidding is not a sure thing, so far this is the only 3* that has been reported in this area. What would happen if you bid on their behalf and ended up at a different hotel? You might wish you were at a dfferent table for the reception :)
thereuare Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 ...you might want to cross link this to the HOTWIRE...Actually we prefer you use the same thread for every post for the same stay (as you can see the threads have now been merged) and we would then just move the thread to the service that was used. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
seningen Posted March 1, 2006 Author Report Posted March 1, 2006 All Caveat's posted and ignored -- they, like everyone, wantsedto try to save a buck......As expected a couple members of the family took the gamble.Well on the theory that it is family and having them end up in a different hotelmight not be all *that* bad......... (They wouldn't be too far away!)I snagged two more rooms for Friday 4/21/06 only --- same hotel -- same rate.Tried $40, countered to $52, used rebid at $43, failed, then hit at 45 using last rebid.perfect (I think :-)mike
dahammer Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Very well done, a Sheraton at $45, what's not to like......based on your bidding history, looks like this is the bottom rate...that's BetterBidding! :) Well on the theory that it is family and having them end up in a different hotelmight not be all *that* bad......... so you have relatives like that too??? Sounds like they owe you a dinner, the Sheraton has a nice restaurant and next door is an Outback
seningen Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 It is familly after all :-)As long as we all have separate rooms -- we'll survive.45 was a total swag -- I saw the $59 on hotwire for a 3* and figured I'd start at 75%.Anywhere within the Malvern area was going to be just fine -- Lucky and perfect that the Sheraton hit -- which is the home base for the wedding party. My wife and I get there a few days early -- so we've got some site seeing to do.I grew up in Philly -- but moved 25yrs ago -- never been to West Chester will check out the area!Hotel food & Outback -- no wayI want cheesesteaks, pizza, pretzels and some Tastycakes!I'll settle for some hole in the wall mom and pop local Italian or other -- recommendations? thanks,m
dahammer Posted March 3, 2006 Report Posted March 3, 2006 When was the last time you went to Longwood Gardens? This is the former estate of one of the DuPont's located in Kennett Square, PA. You will also be close to Valley Forge National Park, however, this is also pretty close to the King of Prussia Mall where you can drop some serious coin on a shopping spree! All of the chain restaurants are up there as well including Cheesecake Factory, Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Sullivans. Without traffic, you will be about 45 minutes from Center City Philly, History and Cheesesteaks (John's on Weccacoe street) Roast Pork (Tony Lukes on Oregon Ave, better than a cheesesteak, get the roast pork italian) Pretzels, and Tastykake (which you can get everywhere, gotta luv the Coconut Cream pies and Peanut Butter KandyKakes)Unfortunately, the Frazer/Exton area has a lot of chain restaurants, Bonefish Grill (a disciple of the Outback group) just opened up nearby. Its actually pretty good, but I too like to patronize independent restaurants. I wish I knew a mom and pop hole in the wall myself, but here are a few places considerfor dining closer to your hotel, check out Gilmore's, 133 E. Gay St., West Chester, 610-431-2800, or Fiorello's (Italian) in West Chester. In Malvern, Restaurant Alba, 7 W. King St., Malvern, 610-644-4009. A little further away in Downingtown, check out a little BYOB called Olive Tree for Mediterranean/Greek (how about whole Red Snapper?). Also in Downingtown, check out the Victory Brewing Company. Brew Pubs usually make great beer and lousy food but this place seems to handle both well. Lastly, for a quick, cheap lunch or dinner, check out Rino's Pizzaria about one mile west of your hotel. Here are a few more West Chester restaurants.Enjoy!
