passthepixiedust Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 Hi ! What a great board you have here ! I am planning on a trip to Disneyland (myself and three children aged 13, 8 and 5) from July 24, 2006 to August 4, 2006. Because we want to stay such a long time, I am looking for CHEAP hotel rates and thought that I would give Priceline or Hotwire a try. I have mostly been looking at Hotwire (because I can enter the number of guests) but it seems to me that people tend to get much better deals through Priceline.I understand that Priceline only guarantees double occupancy, but what are the chances of that being the case ? It's not soooo much about bed type, I can always put the little guys on their camping mattress, but would most hotels allow this ?On Hotwire, I noticed that there is a 2.5* available for my dates for $62 (the 1* for $43 is tempting--should I take a chance??)but it is in Buena park. We are driving from Vancouver, Canada so we will have a car, but still - any ideas on which hotels they might be ?If I do book through either Priceline or Hotwire, I will be sure to do it through your link. Thanks in advance !
WillTravel Posted February 10, 2006 Report Posted February 10, 2006 I think you would almost certainly be okay if you went for a 2.5* or better. The 2* level includes the Candlewood Suites, which is for two only. When I bid for a 3* in the Disneyland zone, I got the Coast hotel. I telephoned and they said I had been assigned a king bed, but for a $3 fee, they'd change it to two doubles (which was waived anyway as it turned out). I would consider direct booking, though, because sometimes very good deals are available. Once we stayed at a nice Howard Johnson's that was easy walking distance to the park. Another time we stayed at a Best Western directly across from the park. Cheap as I tend to be, I think I'd give the 1* for $43 a miss.
passthepixiedust Posted February 10, 2006 Author Report Posted February 10, 2006 WillTravel, Thank you for your quick reply ! Sorry, but did you mean you think it'd be okay to give Priceline a shot for 2.5* or above ? Or did you mean the Hotwire at 2.5* was probably okay ? Sadly, I strongly suspected that the 1* probably wasn't a good idea..... but you gotta love the price !Thereuare, thanks for moving this to the appropriate place ! I am actually pretty much ready to book anytime..... just looking for some great ideas/suggestions. WillTravel mentions direct booking, I personally haven't seen any great deals. Does anyone know of any ?Also, would it be best to bid now or wait until closer to our travel dates ? What should I bid for a 3* ?
thereuare Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 Are you willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID?Are you comfortable trying for 2.5* or higher?Do you have a maximum bid in mind? passthepixiedust Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 Yes, I'd be comfortable in a 2.5 or higher (heck, I almost went for the 1* !) and I would totally be alright with splitting my bid. I don't really have a specific maximum bid, but obviously, I am looking for as cheap as possible. :)
thereuare Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 Everyone's definition of cheap is different... is $50 cheap? $30? $70? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
passthepixiedust Posted February 11, 2006 Author Report Posted February 11, 2006 Well, I would be thrilled to pay between $40- $50, if that's possible.
thereuare Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 I would begin by trying to get a 3* hotel so that you can make use of the three re-bid zones you have at that star level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.I'd begin as follows, trying for the complete stay...Select 3* Disney...Bid $38, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $42, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $46, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $50.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. passthepixiedust Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 Thanks for the plan ! I tried on Sunday, but only got to use two of the rebids because I kind of bid myself into a corner ! I had no more areas I could add that had no three *, but because I had already added two areas that I really didn't want, I couldn't add 2.5 * cause those areas did have those ! I'm going to try again Wednesday ! Thanks alot !
