Try to bid on 4-star hotels in San Diego from Feb. 20 to Feb. 26, 2016 today.

Set up my price as 90USD. Not accepted and be required to add at least 65 more on my bidding price. When I changed my price to 100USD, priceline asks me to add 53USD.

Just wondering if it's normal requirement?

Thank you guys!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages (which will also remove the red box at the top of the page and make the board easier to navigate)

PRICELINE is basically telling you that the 'right' price is somewhere between $91-$155.

If you want to bid again without adding a re-bid zones (or don't have any re-bid zones to add... see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained if you're new to the subject of re-bidding) then you have to increase by the amount indicated.

However, if you are willing to add a re-bid zone your next bid can be any amount you choose.

I will also add that if PRICELINE's counter-off is $155, then $100 is probably not going to be enough... but if you let us know which zone(s) you're including in your bidding we will have a closer look and advise accordingly.

Thank you for your information. Actually I'm new to Name your own price but did some homework before I start to bid. I looked up hotwire blind deal and priceline express deal before I start bidding. I thought reasonable price of 4star hotels in my bid zone should be 90 to 110 per night. But when priceline tries to push my bidding price to 155, I got confused because if priceline does not allow me to bid below 155USD, then how can I have a deal that is cheaper tha PRICELINE EXPRESS deal. Or it's just my misunderstanding? I also tried 3stars hotel. Priceline also tries to push me to over 120USD as I remember.

My ideal zones are downtown marina, little Italy and two Gaslamp quarter areas. I will stay from Feb. 20 to Feb. 26 to attend to a national conference there. Can you please help me to determine reasonable bidding price for both 3star and 4star hotels in my ideal zone? Thank you very much!

I think you're very close... perhaps within $10 of a win at the 4 star level, but first...

Are you familiar with re-bidding? (see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask question and/or confirm the TWELVE re-bid zones you have at the 4* level when bidding 4* in San Diego)

The Priceline "line" about "If you can increase your bid by $XX ..." is just an attempt to get more money out of you.

For example on a win I just had:

I was bidding in the $70 range ... PRICELINE EXPRESS price was $91. (Regular price close to $200).

After saying "Sorry, no room for you" to my low bids PRICELINE came back with

"If you can raise to $92 ... you got a room".

I ignored that ... and while it took a few re-bids, and then again for a total of 3 days  ...

I succeeded in getting a 3 1/2 * hotel with a bid of $79.

They are negotiating with you ... if you need a room "right away" ... either up your bid as they say,

take the express deal, or whatever you can get.  But if you have time and patience for more bidding,

you'll usually get a lower price eventually.

(Subject to the usual caveats about places where rooms are scarce, etc.)

Correct. This is a counter-offer where PRICELINE is telling you that $x price is what it will take to get it done now. However, the required price is between the last failed bid and the the counter-offer.
