rolaydz
We're headed from Maine to NYC next weekend - 1/27-1/29. Since we're driving, I thought we'd take the train in from CT instead of enduring the headaches and cost of driving all the way into the city. Someone suggested parking in Stamford and taking the train from there. Is there an easier/better station to come from? Are we going to be able to find parking in Stamford? Thanks for your help. Love the site! Link to comment

rolaydz
We're at the Swissotel "The Drake" on 56th. Booked it through Priceline before we found your site. Got a decent deal, though, $150 per night. Wonder now if we could've done better with your tips. Link to comment

thereuare
Station Parking The Parking Operator is Pro-Park. Please call this number - 203-327-7998, for further informationYou can call the above and ask if they 'sell out' and the costs invovled. This may not save you as much as you may think...The off-peak (i'm assuming your travel times) fare is $9.25, so round trip you're looking at $37 + parking, in addition to the fact that you'll need to plan to arrive at the train a little before it departs (10 minutes or so).Parking in NYC on Friday will likely be expensive, but you can probably find very affordable lots on the weekends (either day i would park outside of the UM/CPS zone... drop off your bags, have one of you check-in, while the other finds parking in a less expensive lot... for example the Port Authority Bus Terminal offers 24 hours of parking for $26)So i would think that the train would be an option if you're trying to avoid the traffic and you'd already "had enough" of driving by this point or are concerned about driving in NYC, but it's probably notthat much less from a dollars/cents perspective. dahammer
The Town of Harrison, NY has free weekend parking from 4:30 Friday to 7:00 AM on Monday. Call (914) 835-2000 for more information. This lot is usually filled with commuters Monday - Friday, so you might get lucky if folks sneak out of work early for the weekend. If you arrive before 4:30 PM on Friday, you will need to buy a non-resident permit for $5.00 and probably have to pay the hourly rate.Free parking.......don't ya just love those two words...... :) Metro North Harrison StationHere is a link to the map showing the New Haven lineMTA Metro North Map Link to comment
kaysmom
For another idea, we often park in New Haven and train in, the parking is cheap but when we've gone to Stamford often the lot is full and you have park elsewhere which is more expensive. The Stamford lot used to close at like 11p (haven't been in a while) so you might want to double check that if you're returning in the late evening Link to comment
