Priceline Hotel: 4* New York City (Empire State Building) The Gregory

Following up on my previous thread, we must've seen the hotel at the same time because I also saw the $126/night hotel in ESB and just finished bidding on it and won The Gregory as you guessed! I started at about 80% of the PRICELINE EXPRESS price and went up in $3-5 increments until I won it at $117USD/$153CAD.

Thank you for all your advice and help! I'm happy with what I ended up with as both itineraries fall below my budget, but the waiting was a little terrifying (my refundable's cancellation expires at 4pm today so it was literally the last day I could settle this). Next time, I think I'm going to jump on an earlier deal instead of waiting... I'm sure next time I may not be so lucky!

Last question, I've noticed you gave a few area recommendations for food... Any other suggestions? :)

As always, I used the board PRICELINE link to bid!

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you were able to make this a much more affordable try by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID.

Near the Roosevelt:

You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.

This hotel is right around the corner from the famous NYC Chicken and Rice Food Cart if you're want to try some of the local 'street meat'. You want the cart that is there late nite (7:30pm-4am) on the SW corner of 53rd St and Sixth Ave... a nice dose of white sauce and use the hot sauce very sparingly as it's EXTREMELY HOT. Best $6 dinner you'll find in the city, and even if you're n

Near The Gregory:

Best Bagel and Coffee

225 W 35th St (between Seventh and Eighth Ave)

If you're a burger fan:

Jackson Hole Wyoming (although admittedly i haven't been to this location in awhile):

521 3rd Ave (on Third Ave at 35th St)

==> if looking for something very casual, unpretentious, and HUGE burgers

If you let me know what type of food you are looking for (and price point) i can make some other suggestions.

Thanks! Sounds really good!

I don't have a particular cuisine/price point in mind... But if it helps narrow things down, maybe a few recommendations of good, reasonably priced local favourites? I am definitely willing to travel (subway) around the city to try a good recommendation! (This trip is slowly turning into a food trip... Haha)

Do you have a personal favourite (or two) places to eat in New York?

I like everything i mentioned above but to add to it:

Adrienne's Pizzabar

54 Stone St

New York, NY 10004

--> a restaurant, not a slice shop... stick with the 'grandma' style pie

Juliana's

19 Old Fulton St (brooklyn)

--> one subway stop over the bridge, walk down the hill... one of the best pizzas i've had (expect a line so try to eat at 'off' hours)

Bon Chon Chicken

207 West 38th Street

or

Turntable Mad for Chicken (i describe this place as a 'speakeasy' for chicken)

314 5th Ave (up the narrow stairs... don't be afraid)

--> both good for KFC, Korean Fried Chicken, if you don't have where you're from. Very good, very spicey, and very not healthy.

Meatball Shop

64 Greenwich Ave

--> casual, fun, easy priced, and good

Chinatown always fun if not one where you live
