I would start bidding downtown at $75 and raise $5 per free rebid. Don't use any areas with 4* or resorts as free rebids.

Keep in mind that I think you have a good chance of winning the Sheraton Harbor Island. Its about 10 mins from the gaslamp

sorry for asking, but whats a free rebid?

Its a area that only has lower rated hotels then you want to win. In your case it would be any area with only 3* or less hotels.

Start by going to Priceline and check each zone for San Diego one by one. This will tell you the highest * level in each zone. If you are bidding 4* use only zones that have 3* or less hotels. Don't use any area with a resort hotel in it as PL could upgrade you to resort and you will be some where you don't want to be.

We'll take it one step at a time.

From Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time.

So in the next post, write down each San Diego zone and the highest star rating offered in that area.

We'll then take the next step once you have the re-bid zones understood.

One of the 4* hotels that we see come up is sold out and the others have very high rates for your dates. I think your going to have to raise you max bid or pick another area of SD. Have you bid 3* yet? If it were me I would bid Costal and Mission Valley. There are some great hotels in the Costal zone and the drive is only 15-20 mins.

Since I wasnt getting anywhere on priceline, I went to Hotwire and got the 3* Holiday Inn Select at Hotel Circle for $42 a night. Great deal, as the regular rate on their website is about $129/night and I paid $144.44 total for 3 nights. As an added bonus, because I spent over a certain amount of money I got 3 free magazine subscriptions for a year.

Thanks to bbbb for his help on this matter.
