I am interested in getting a 4* hotel in the Time Square District from June 27 - June 29. My budget is up to $180/night.   I have read a couple of posts on what needs to be done in terms of re-bidding and adding new zones with lower star rating hotels.  I would love a strategy to get a nice hotel in this area within my budget or lower.  Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Is Times Square the only zone you're willing to accept for this stay? We can't certainly supply you a bidding strategy if this is the only acceptable zone, but you will likely get a better deal/value if you're willing to include other nearby zones as:

1) it gives more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid

2) you most likely won't be spending most of your time in Times Square

3) what is really most important in NYC is that you're centrally located and near a subway station(s). While Times Square certainly fits this criteria, there are other zones that fit this criteria as well and are generally considered to be just as convenient for exploring the city.

Here is some additional reading: Hotels Near Times Square

Please confirm if you're willing to include other areas OR if you only want to bid Times Square and we'll advise accordingly.

You've just opened it up by not only expanding your zones... but now also consider lower star ratings as well.

Let's start here:

PRICELINE EXPRESS has this 4* hotel in the Times Square zone for only $147/nite (confirm your dates on the landing page... i don't believe this property was offered a few days ago when you originally posted) with:

Restaurant

Free Internet

... my guess for this one would be the Night Hotel Theatre District.

Do you want to take this offer given it's well within your price range and in your first choice of zone... or do you want to try bidding for a lower price (where you may get this property or some other 4* or higher in the zone) and/or do you want to include MTE/MTW in your bidding? If bidding, should we also lower your maximum bid to the $147/nite level? (since any higher it would be cheaper to take this PRICELINE EXPRESS offer)

Also, if you do choose to bid, note that the MTE zone has the ONE UN, which while it gets ok reviews, is located a bit far east and can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable?

I checked the priceline deal that you linked on the reply but it is no longer available :(

I do not want to be that far away from the subway so I think MTE is no longer a possibility because of that hotel being an option.  Is there a similar problem with MTW? or maybe Hell's Kitchen?

There are very few hotels in total (less than 10 probably) in the Hell's Kitchen zone and it is somewhat out of the way. I will note that one of my favorite sights in NYC - the Intrepid Air/Space Museum - is within that zone. Otherwise, I wouldn't bid HK.

How about what appears to be the W New York for $180/nite? This hotel is located in the MTE zone, but it's well located (1 block to the 6 train and a 5 minute walk to a few other subway stations, including Grand Central)

Does this one work for your needs?
