snhtiger Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 Hi! I am going to NYC and I would like to stay near times square or other tourist attractions. Any guidelines on how to accomplish this? I know I want a safe area and 2.5+ star with fairly good ratings. I am hoping to accomplish for around $100/night but up to $120. Thank you in advance for your help.

AaronJB Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 Ultimately, I think $120 is not going to be enough for these dates in Midtown, although - depends on the star rating and depends on the zone - a winning bid is likely not going to require substantially higher (I'd guess at least around $135-145.) I do see what appears to be the Club Quarters Wall Street for $119 on Hot.wire, which is a good deal, but that's all the way downtown and it will be a trek to Midtown if that is where you are going to be spending much of your time. $100-120 during the slow season (January-March) can go a long way, but unfortunately as Spring gets going prices ramp up quite a bit. thereuare Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 I'll add that you may be able to get something in midtown (MTW/TS) in the $130-$150 range, if you're willing to increase your budget for a higher rated hotel. snhtiger Posted April 10, 2015 Author Report Posted April 10, 2015 Thanks for the information. I noticed that you mentioned midtown. I'm not sure how that area came about as i didn't mention it and I'm definitely not tied to it. I would just like to be in a relatively safe area near (or not too far from ts/attractions if possible). So do you think it'd be possible for me to bid on priceline to get a hotel in any area for less than $120?
thereuare Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 ...I would like to stay near times square...I noticed that you mentioned midtown. I'm not sure how that area came about as i didn't mention it...Midtown is near Times Square which is why it was referenced above. What is more important for this trip... location, budget, or comfort? If you want something near Times Square and centrally located you will need to increase your budget. You can likely get a 2.5* or better hotel Downtown for less than $120, but this zone is not as well located... you also may be able to get a 2.5* hotel in the Central Park South zone, and while this zone is well located, it also contains the Hudson Hudson hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) If you are willing to increase your budget you can likely get something in midtown (ie- 'near Times Square') and higher rated in the $130-$150 area. Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we will advise accordingly. snhtiger Posted April 11, 2015 Author Report Posted April 11, 2015 Thanks so much I'm researchin the areas you lays. I guess safety/comfort and then location would be my preference order.I'm fine with location as long as it's pretty accessible to the subway.
thereuare Posted April 12, 2015 Report Posted April 12, 2015 We would warn you if you were looking at any areas that would be considered to be unsafe, and while you still need to be aware of your surroundings as you would in any large city, NYC is a much safer place place then it was 15-20 years ago and if you're sticking with the midtown/downtown areas i don't really think you need to be too concerned with safety (any more/less so than any other city) Safety aside, you mention location as being the most important aspect of this stay, but as noted above, you will need to increase your budget to stay in what is generally considered to be the best zone(s)... are you willing/able to increase your budget OR does price take precedence and you would rather be in a less central location (but still do-able) in order to try to stay within budget? snhtiger Posted April 12, 2015 Author Report Posted April 12, 2015 Since there's still some time left I'd say price takes precedence and I want to stick to the budget.
thereuare Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 We usually recommend that users stick with the higher rated hotels in NYC as the hotel quality, even within the same star level, can vary greatly. While you may find a 2.5* hotel that you love and suits your needs perfectly, you could also land a 2.5* that can bring down the overall experience of your trip and make you wish you spent just a little bit more. For this time of year I don't think $120 is realistic for something 'nice' in the area(s) that you want to stay, but if you want to give it a try, let us know which zone(s) you'd like to bid and your maximum bid and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.
