blindman Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Not exactly what I was aiming for, but Hey Ho. :) I was hoping to get the Thistle Marble Arch at the famously low price of $53.First bid at $53 was countered with "Bid $15 more and it's yours" Bid twice again ($56,$60) adding Westminster and Regents Park- No luck. :o Final bid added Mayfair and got this Hotel.Reviews look OK and as I was undecided as to the train or car, I'll probably plump for the train as it's more convenient.Forgot to use the support link :) though put some money in via PayPal to make up for that. :)
sxc Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 I've bid up to $58 for this area for 01/31/06 as well looking for the Thistle Marble Arch, and it's a no show. I wonder if they've pulled out of Priceline?
blindman Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 The 31st Jan is a Tuesday so these business type hotels would (IMHO) have a higher PL rate (if any at all).Mine (and others) stay is for the weekend.Good luck.
thereuare Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Could be worse... and only for one nite.Hopefully sxc can learn a few things from you :) Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

I'm trying to add a night as I'm arriving a day earlier.I'm going to add this win from a while ago as a separate post.
blindman Posted January 5, 2006 Author Report Posted January 5, 2006 You may find that their PL inventory at that price has now gone and their next PL level is higher than that of the Novotel (yesterday anyway).Hope you get the same hotel, just be aware you may not :)
pirate Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 BlindmanLike you I got the Novatel while shooting for the Thistle Marble Arch, for a stay a few days ago. Actually its not at all bad (see seperate review). If you like a drink there is a fabulous old pub just a few minutes walk away. From the hotel cross the main road and go south on the side street directly opposite (Judd St) about 8 blocks to The Lamb on Lamb's Conduit. You are walking through high end housing/medical area behind Gt Ormond St hospital etc and its a perfectly safe district. (Lamb's Conduit runs between GT Ormond St and Guildford St, just off Guildford Place.)The Lamb is one of the best examples of a small Victorian local left in central London, serves really good beer, decent upscalish pub grub and has a clientelle of medicos and residents rather than tourists. highly recommended.Enjoy your stay, :) Pirate
