Priceline Hotel: 2* Pittsburgh (Greentree) Extended StayAmerica

Looks like a decent enough hotel... I usually select Greentree and bid $40 and get the Radisson, or lose my bid. Was trying to cheat a few dollars and got the ExtendedStay. On the plus side, all the rooms have a small kitchen, and I called and was told WiFi Internet is throughout the hotel, but at cost, albiet reasonable, of $3.99 per day. This is the FIRST time I selected Greentree and got something other than the Radisson, though I usually bid $40. Once I had to up it to $45 to get the Radisson. Probably 6 or 7 times I got it for $40. My sister claims she once got the Holiday Inn at Greentree (right next to the Radisson), for $40. In case you need to know, the Radisson has year round indoor pool, that connects to an outdoor pool in summer, and is PET FRIENDLY ( something else I like as I can take my dog when I get it). ExtendedStay is pet friendly but their website cites a one time $25 cleaning fee regardless of length of stay (so stay 2 or more days, still just $25, 1 day =$25 too)...

On the downside, no indoor pool like the Radisson. Whenever I want to bid between $30 and $35 I usually just select the Airport area. 6 out of 6 times with a $30 bid I got the Holiday Inn Airport, with a nice indoor pool and the accomadated bed requests and airport view requests (much nicer than looking at the parking lot or the roof of the pool). 3 out of 4 times when I bid $35 I got the Marriot Courtyard Airport, which has very nice room, king beds, an indoor pool and they accomadate requests for interior courtyard rooms where you either have a balcony or can walk out to the courtyard.

Guess I'm trying the Extended Stay for the first time. It's not right off the interstate as much as Radisson, and isn't quite as close to Pittsburgh, but is still a convenient location. I'm actually going through Pittsburgh this trip bringing back a pop-up camper I bought off ebay from Akron, OH... So it's more a personal business trip and I don't care so much about not having a pool, though it would have been nice.

I'm new to this forum but look forward to reading everyone's posts and adding my own on occassion. We travel quite a bit, but usually use Priceline just for trips home to Pittsburgh, Morgantown WV and sometimes other cities. If you need Pittsburgh or Morgantown or Charleston, WV (my current hometown), or Cape Cod, Key West or Outer Banks vacation, hotel or travel advice, I can probably help you out.

Cheers,

RJ

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Thank you for sharing your win with the board and for adding this new property to our lists. Was this your first bid (for this stay) at the 2* level? Can you also confirm that the Radisson in this zone is a 3* rated property, we'll then add it to our hotel list so that others know that it too is a possibility when bidding this area.

This is the Extended Stay at 520 N. Bell Ave in Carnegie?

We look forward to hearing about your future priceline wins as well as your experience with the areas that you have knowledge of.

Enjoy your stay.

This was my first bid at the 2* level. I probably should have tried a bit higher, but I didn't have much time. I think the Radisson in Carnegie is considered a 3*. I would definately rate it higher than the Extended Stay. After staying at the ExtendedStay, it was decent, but I would say it's less than 2 stars. The people were nice, however, and we did have a small kitchen, and there is WiFi internet available. They said it costs 3.99 a day, but I was given the password and not charged.

It is the ExtendedStay at 520 N. Bell Ave. They upgraded us to a king for no charge, though it was a very firm bed which we were not too crazy about as far as comfort. The tv/cable wasn't bad, about 60 channels. We were shocked when one of the channels had what amounted to soft core porn, though it was probably just late night showtime we were surfing through.

I will try to be more observant to what I am bidding as far as star level in the future.

They did give us a late check out, we checked in late... checked out around 12:30pm

Interestingly, the next day, a PA State Police Officer was in a struggle with someone on the road right outside the hotel, and was shot and killed. Someone in the incident was staying at the hotel, and they busted them with over a pound of heroin and coke in the room.

Maybe not the best place to stay... But that kind of thing could happen anywhere I guess. There were a lot of people that the staff told me just live in the hotel full time.
