dahammer Posted December 8, 2005 Report Posted December 8, 2005 Newark-Meadowlands Area room inventory is extremely tight, possibly due to customers not wanting to pay $350-500 per night for a room in NYC. Unfortuately, I exhausted 2*, 2.5*, and 3* bids in Elizabeth, Jersey City, Meadowlands-Rutherford, Newark-Newark Airport, Secaucus-North Bergen, at $85, $95, and $140. Hotwire only had two 2* properties, the rate was $100. Even the the desolate Howard Johnson's hotel (bordered by the Newark Airport, several overpasses, a prison, and an employee parking lot) was $119 Started bidding in the next closest area to the south, Edison-Woodbridge and selected 3* and was successful on my first bid of $70. Sheraton Edison Hotel Raritan Center Your Offer Price: $70.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $17.74 Total Charges: $87.74 High speed (wired) internet is $10.55 a day. This property is right off exit 10 of the NJ Turnpike in the Raritan Center, a huge industrial park. Harold's Deli is a few blocks away (in the nearby Holiday Inn) and features great pastrami, supposedly from the same purveyor that supplies the Carnagie Deli in NYC. The Sheraton is still about 30 Miles from NYC, the Metropark train station is about 5 miles away with both Amtrak and NJ Transit service into New York. Used Savingsbarn.com to make my bid

dahammer Posted December 9, 2005 Author Report Posted December 9, 2005 Harold's Deli is a few blocks away (in the nearby Holiday Inn) and features great pastrami, had to get the pastrami to go and while it was not quite as good as Katz's in Manhattan, a little on the fatty side, it was nonetheless very good. Well over a pound of steaming pastrami, easily enough to feed 3 as they give extra bread. This was the small sandwich, the large is $26
