Dunno if it's the holidays or what, but did not get as good a deal as I'd been hoping. Did lots and lots of bidding. First, the bid I won today (12/7):

Hyatt Pittsburgh Airport

Your Offer Price: $33.00

Number of Nights: 2

Subtotal: $66.00

$25 added Greetree 2.5* rejected

$26 added University 2.5* rejected

$27 added Downtown 2.5* rejected

$29 added Mifflin 2.5* rejected

12/7 dates of 12/9 - 12/11 (restarted)

$31 Airport & North Allegheny Valley 2.5* rejected, offer of retry with raise of $8, didn't do.

$33 added Greentree won.

When I bid on just the Airport with 2.5*, I should have started at $26. I only looked at subject lines and didn't read the bid postings to see that $25 and under consistently didn't win at the Airport Holiday Inn.

I was actually shooting for the Airport Holiday Inn for under $30. Like I said, I'm a little disappointed I didn't get a 2.5* for a lower price. I even double checked that the Holiday Inn had rooms. Oh well, still better than nothing.

I think $33 for a Hyatt is a pretty great deal... especially at less than 1/3 of a conventional booking.

I don't know about each of these particular properties, but if given a choice, i would almost always be willing to pay $6 more for a Hyatt than a Holiday Inn (unless i was dependent upon internet access where one would be pay and the other free... although even at $16 more per nite (including internet charge) i would likely take a Hyatt)

I'm not sure why the Holiday Inn wasn't accepting bids for these dates, as the rate thru their website is actually quite low, historically speaking.

Hope you enjoy your stay and thanks for sharing it with the board.

The Hyatt is a very nice property, and well kept, but I would rather get the Holiday Inn airport, as it's pet friendly, they always are accomadating to requests (king bed, near pool or airport view higher floors, etc.)... They also have free internet, whereas the Hyatt is T-mobile, which incurs a fee unless you have a T-mobile plan.

The magic bid for the Holiday Inn is $30, because I've gotten it EVERY time for that in probably 12 attempts. When I raised my bid to $35, I have gotten the Courtyard Marriot 3 times. Nice property as well, and accomadates requests (King, courtyard side 1st floor or second w/balcony), but is not pet friendly. Free internet as well, and very nice rooms.

Though for our stay at Courtyard Airport a few months ago (also at a $35 priceline bid), the heat in our room was on the fritz and it was COLD!... The offered to swap rooms, but we were pretty well settled in after a night out. Since electric heaters aparently violate the fire code, they couldn't provide one. So, lets just say it was real fun running hot water in the bathtub and running the coffee pot and iron in the room in attempt to warm it up!

:) Other than that stay, we've never had a problem at either Airport HI or Courtyard.
