pnompri Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Hi, I need a Hotel room in NYC - Times Square area for 30-Apr-14 - 2-May-14. Looking at the MAPS and HOTELS.com the lowest rate is $220/night for 3.5* and above within 1-mile of the Times Square. Also, I have listed below the various areas and the highest star rating Hotel in each area for PRICELINE bidding. Brooklyn - 4* Central Park South - 5* Chelsea - 4.5* Downtown Financial District - 5* Empire State Building Area - 5* Hell's Kitchen - 4* Long Island City - 3.5* Lower East Side - 4* Madison Square Garden - 4* Midtown East - 5* Midtown West - 4.5* Morningside Heights - Harlem - 3.5* SoHo - Tribeca - 5* Times Square - Theatre District - 5* Upper East Side - 5* Upper West Side - 4* Can someone please guide me at what price should I start for a 4* Hotel and my bidding strategy? Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you're only considering the Times Square zone (and i do recommend you consider other nearby zones, as discussed in this Hotels near Times Square thread) you're likely looking at a little more than $200/nite... if you're willing to include other nearby zones (such as MSG, ESB, MTW) you're likely looking at something in the $155-$175 range. So we don't suggest a strategy that goes higher than you're willing to pay, let us know your maximum bid (as well as if you're willing to accept other zones), and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. pnompri Posted March 10, 2014 Author Report Posted March 10, 2014 Thanks for the warm welcome and a quick response. I am not familiar to NYC but want to be close to the most popular attraction so that I am not spending lot of time in travel. But I am open to other areas which are well connected to the tourist attractions and I am also willing to increase my bid and/or settle for 3.5* Hotel. But I would like to cap at $150 all-inclusive, if possible. Please suggest a bidding strategy.
thereuare Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 But I would like to cap at $150 all-inclusive, if possible. You're going to have to 'give' on something (include other zones, lower your star rating, and/or increase your budget) as your current maximum bid ($150 all-in is ~$125 bid price) will not be enough for your current criteria. Use our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com and search within 1 mile of 'Times Square NYC', remove all hotels that are less than 3.5* rated (the click the PRICE heading to sort by price from lowest to highest)... what is the best rate you're able to find for an acceptable hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. pnompri Posted March 11, 2014 Author Report Posted March 11, 2014 The lowest price for 3.5* and above within 1-mile of Times Square is $220/nt. Based on this what should be my starting bid?
thereuare Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 It's not a question of where you should start... it's more of an issue of where you are willing to end. Based upon the best rate above being your best non-opaque offer, how high are you willing to bid for a 3.5* hotel? Also note that the hotel for $220/nite is NOT in the Times Square zone, so if you decide you are still only willing to bid the Times Square zone then this would not be a good hotel to use as a comparison (if you zoom in on hte map and only look at the Times Square area you'll see rates are more in the $300's). The point of having your research rates at MAPS and HOTELS.com was to give you a sense that a maximum bid price of $125 is not realistic for these dates, and you should determine your maximum bid based upon how much of a discount you would need from the best deal that you're able to find in order to account/compensate for the 'unknown' factor of getting a hotel thru PRICELINE. Above i gave a ballpark estimate of what i think realistic prices are for if you decide to stick with only Times Square or if you're willing to include other nearby zones. pnompri Posted March 11, 2014 Author Report Posted March 11, 2014 OK I will go with your suggestions. Please tell me the strategy to get a 3.5* or higher hotel near Times Square.
thereuare Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 ...near Times Square.Which zone(s), by PRICELINE name, are you willing to accept.. and what is your maximum bid for a 3.5* or better hotel? pnompri Posted March 14, 2014 Author Report Posted March 14, 2014 My dates have changed slightly. Now I need a 3.5* or higher for 4/25 - 4/27. I am looking for TS, MW, ME & MSG. I am willing to go up to $170/nt. Maps and hotels.com shows starting rate of $170/nt for 3.5* or higher. Please suggest a bidding strategy.
thereuare Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 Note that there area currently no re-bid zones at the 3.5* level (and for anyone else following along, now only ONE re-bid zone at the 4* level as one of the previous re-bid zones at the 4* level now offers 4* bidding (which is why we say to always double check your re-bid zones just before bidding)) You can try bidding as follows: Select 3.5* MTE... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTW... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* TS... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MSG... Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTW and MSG... Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTE and MSG... Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTW and TS... Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTE, MTW, TS... Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTE, MTW, MSG... Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE... Select 3.5* MTE, MTW, TS, MSG... Bid $155 If the above is rejected there is a 3.5* in the MTE zone on PRICELINE EXPRESS for $165/nite, but using the discount link and code in my signature brings this one down to $157/nite: Restaurant Business Center Fitness Center --> my guess would be the Hotel Boutique at Grand Central Any questions feel free to ask.
