HuntBeachGuy Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Hi again, i am looking at Price.line for a 4* in London England, 4/19 to 4/22 2014. I would like a budget of @ $135.00 a night (tough I know) I have another hotel later from work and we are hoping to extend a few days early. So far I have tried Bloomsbury, 4* , $91.00 Closed and did your usual of close browser and restart... The City 4* $91.00 Soho 4* 91.00 So do I now try another area or add two of these together? My hotel through work is the Hyatt Regency, The Churchill Hotel (looks very nice) it is located in the Bloomsbury area, I was hoping to stay close to the same locale. Thanks
yellowdog Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Please start with reading this link: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and let us know if you have any questions and/or would like to confirm your re-bid zones with the board. It looks like your budget is do-able for a 4* (but not higher) in some zones. I would say that The City and Bloomsbury is your best bet with current rates. But feel free to include other zones as well. If you would like to get help with a bidding strategy so please post the zones by PRICELINE name and we'll help you with that. Let us know and we'll go from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches. Yellowdog.
HuntBeachGuy Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 Thanks Yellowdog, I have bid up to $116.00 Bloomsbury, and Mayfair $110 The city and Westminster $106 Kensingtons and Notting Hill All of these starting at 90 and bumping 5 or 6 at a time. Thanks Again.
vanpoodle Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I've just started looking for a hotel, same days as you. It's more expensive than it was at this time last year, that's for sure. It also looks like some of the Marriotts that had been fantastic are no longer participating. I took a look at Express Deals and the zones I'd consider are: Mayfair ($177), Westminster ($139), Bloomsbury ($146), City ($130) and Notting Hill ($206). I've bid using NYOP to $85 just now to see if there were any counteroffers happening and sadly, no. So it looks like my options are either to go higher or else to try out Regent's Park (Express $115) from looking at amenities and guest rating it appears to be the Holiday Inn Camden Lock which would be okay in a pinch I suppose. Better than Kensington where lately they either stick you in the Tara (ick) or, guessing from Express it looks like it's the Olympia ($116 -- hotel apparently is nice enough but it's far from the tube -- but bidding there means risking the Tara which should be 3* and got upgraded for some unknown reason) . (I use the prices in pl Express to get a sense of where to start bidding, usually NYOP comes in at $1-$30 less) I might investigate Chelsea and see if it is still likely to be the so-so Copthorne Football Club and consider that as well depending on how high bidding takes me.
HuntBeachGuy Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 Thanks Vanpoodle, I agree about the hotels you are uncomfortable with (only from reports never been in either), I see some express numbers also that do not thrill me. I finally got a counter offer from priceline in "The city/london Bridge" area. However that was $120 bid and they want me to up it to $144.00 will pas on it for now. Going to try another round tonight and see if I can do any better. Still hoping!!!

yellowdog Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Please keep all posts in the same thread since posts are for the same stay. I'm sorry to say that a 4* property with this amenitie combo has not yet been reported/ID'd to the board. A guess would be Corus Hotel Hyde Park but I'm not sure. Keep us updated on your progress and let us know what you ultimately decide or if we can be of further help. HuntBeachGuy Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 Shortened the stay, decided that the Saturday night in the city was the expensive night. Ended up with 2 nights at Crowne Plaza London the City through Price.line $89.00 for 2 nights total $222.26 4/20-22/2014 Probably could have started lower because I knew Saturday was the expensive night, had no idea it was going for @ $225.00 so may have done better but were only looking at a few dollars I'm sure. (at least I tell myself that to feel better :)) I do have a question though. I received a 5% off Coupon for "Name your own price" says click on it for "get coupon code" However I never saw anywhere to put a coupon code in on a name your own price. Do you have any experience with this? I am also going to book one night at the airport to chill when we arrive so that will work out I hope... Thanks again
thereuare Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 If you didn't, in the future, after clicking to get your coupon code please be sure to return to the board and click the links here to begin your bidding/purchases.
