ciderm Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Hi I need some help nailing down a bidding strategy for a trip to NY. Recommendation on areas to bid on is more than welcome. I am taking my girlfriend on a romantic trip to NY, my budget including taxes is 2200 $ level for 8 nights. There is a very good chance that I might ask the big question to her during the trip, so I would like to be in one of the better hotels in the city, Outright booking in one of them is not an option for me given the budget.I see it is considered high season in NYC at the time but the plane tickets were bought on an impulse so I cannot really change the dates. I would really appreciate the help, thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding! Generally speaking the following zones are considered to be well located and good access to mass transit: MTW, TS, ESB, MSG The following zones may want to be included depending upon your needs for this trip: CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (not recommended for your scenario above, imo) MTE - most hotels well located but a few can be a 10+ minute walk to the subway (not as much of an issue in May as it is in February, but some might want something more convenient to the subway) Chelsea - can be 10+ minute walk to the subway but a 'hot' area right now with lots of bars, restaurants, cafes, etc, so something you may want to consider if these are appealing to you for this trip Would you want to begin bidding at the 4* level? ciderm Posted February 28, 2014 Author Report Posted February 28, 2014 Hi thanks for the advice and the help. From another user's thread I adapted this Priceline bidding strategy Up to 240$ it did not work. Then I saw a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal for a 8+ review 4 star in Times Square for 241$ with the %5 discount at check-out, I managed to ID the hotel as New York Marquis and I got it for 228$ per night!. There seems to be a capacity issue with Marriott lately, almost all regions have a suspected Marriott in express deals. This forum has been a great help. Thanks a lot.
thereuare Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that you're happy with your purchase. Thank you for sharing your win with the board. If you recall, can you please add a reply to this thread with the amenities that PRICELINE EXPRESS associated with this property and showed before your purchase. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Thanks, enjoy your stay.
