hellothere4 Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 I am looking for 2 rooms in NYC for the dates of May 3-5. There will be 2 adults in one room. And 2 adults and 2 kids in the 2nd. I am trying to read up on the bidding strategy but I am still new to the process. We would like rooms close to Central Park, the museums, etc. We feel MTE, ESB, MTW, CPS would be good areas. But we are open to suggestions. We prefer to not get too far away with traveling with children. We'd like a 4* and would like to stay under $150. Do you think this is possible and can you help with a bidding strategy? Thanks
yellowdog Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Welcome to BetterBidding :) There will be 2 adults in one room. And 2 adults and 2 kids in the 2ndPlease note that PRICELINE and PRICELINE EXPRESS only guarantees double occupancy, after that is at the discretion of the hotel. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. Whether they will/can or not depends upon a LOT of different factors, including what is available at the time of your check-in, how many rooms with two beds are offered at the hotel and what they need to accommodate other guests for your dates, hotel policy etc.HOTWIRE guarantees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search... this often means two beds in the room, but the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc.Let us know your thoughts and we'll go from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.

thereuare Posted February 18, 2014 Report Posted February 18, 2014 We feel MTE, ESB, MTW, CPS would be good areas. But we are open to suggestions.I would avoid the CPS zone as it has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms and will certainly not accommodate 2adults/2children. I would also consider including the MSG zone which is generally considered to be centrally located with good access to subway stations. Please confirm the zone(s) you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hellothere4 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Report Posted February 18, 2014 Lets go with MTE, ESB, MTW and MSG.

hellothere4 Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 I tried the bidding strategy and did not win a hotel. what would you suggest next?
AaronJB Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 You can: * Raise your desired max and try to work higher by $2/3 at a time. * Wait for a few days and try again. However, this is going to be a busy period so I'd try to lock something in. * Consider a lower star rating. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 I'd think you need to be somewhere in the $160-$180 area to be successful for a 4* hotel in one of the zones above, if that helps you make a decision as to how you'd like to proceed from here. hellothere4 Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 ok thanks for the tips. I will rethink our budget. I've never booked through HOTWIRE before. Are the hotel deals usually pretty good? I see a 3* for $184 in the MSG area. Any thoughts on what it could be?
yellowdog Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 hellothere4 I see a 3* for $184 in the MSG area. hellothere4 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 can you help identify a hotel on PRICELINE EXPRESS? it is 4 star. MTE $188/night. Free internet in public areas restaurant business center fitness center If you can get an idea of which hotel it is, do you think it likely that they would be willing to give us a 2 bed bedroom?
AaronJB Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 I'd guess the Lexington or Marriott East Side. With the way that NYC hotels are - small rooms, 2 beds often go for a premium , I'd guess a room with 2 beds is unlikely. Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

woodpecker Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 Congrats to this incredible deal. I don't want to be the dog in the manger, but I stayed there a couple of years ago. They have spacious rooms, but definitely no double beds. Hopefully you will be fine with the kids. I reply that so you can get in contact with the hotel in advance to clarify. I also search for room with kids and I am afraid to get a hotel with the same manner. Greetings from Germany.
