Priceline Hotel: Bidding strategy Arlington 4*

I am really travelling on a budget so let's state my max budget on $60/night, preferably lower. Area doesn't matter so much, as long as public transport links are semi decent.

I am seeing the Hyatt in Arlington get a few nice sales with $45 onward, and that'd be really convenient for me since it's right next to the metro. I realise I can't target hotels, but let's try anyway.

I have a bit of time for this, as I won't be travelling until mid March, and am not beyond falling back to a hostel (different experience altogether, but a great way to meet other solo travelers).

Can anyone suggest a bidding strategy for me?

Please provide the date/s of travel - rates can vary substantially by date - and we would be happy to take a look and offer suggestions on how to proceed.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Keep in mind that you can end up anywhere in the zone, so you need to be comfortable that the location of all 4* hotels in the zone will provide you with easy access to the public transportation.

Please include the date(s) of your stay and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Heh, sorry...

March 16-19, as it looks now.

Anywhere else that has decent public transport connections is fine too. I realise I may end up anywhere, it's okay, I think. The only 4 stars I see in Arlington are Hyatt and Westin and I am pretty sure I won't get the Westin for my price range.

Having said that, rates those days seem steep, so maybe there's something on driving up the price.

Not going to be heartbroken if I don't get it, but figured I'd try it at least.

Yes, rates do seem on the higher side for these dates and a 4* hotel in this zone at $60 or less does not seem very likely at the moment. Are any other zones acceptable?

I think these zones are probably fine too:

Capitol Hill Convention Center

Capitol Hill South

Dupont Circle - Woodley Park

Georgetown - Foggy Bottom

White House - Downtown

There are currently no 4* hotels offered by PRICELINE in the Capitol Hill South zone, so we won't include that in your bidding.

Even with these other zones i don't think you're in the right ballpark for a 4* hotel, but to give it a try:

When bidding 4* in the Washington DC region you have NINE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Arlington, Capitol Hill Convention Center, Dupont Circle, Georgetown-Foggy Bottom, White House...

Bid $40, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $43, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $48, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $53, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $58, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Any questions feel free to ask.

No joy, unfortunately, but not entirely unexpected. I made it up to 68, then bowed out. I may come back to it.Thanks for the help so far, may try something for NYC too.

Used the link, of course :)
