7continentKaren Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 I tried up to $125 for 5* in both Kowloon (Tsim Sha Tsui) and Hong Kong W, hoping for JW Marriott. Now JW is full one of those days so that is out. Tried $70 for 4* in Kowloon and got a big NO. Not even a counter. I can split the days and keep trying but I am getting discouraged. Hotel rates are high. Renaissance in Kowloon is $154/night. JW is over $300. I am seriously considering just staying with Renaissance, using some Marriott points for some nights.
Chris26WI Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 If you could consider the Cosmopolitan Hotel, you MIGHT get that one as 4star in HK Island West for a fair price.. I think.. (It's usually sold for around 80$ +/- by asiarooms.com, so you coud be successful in the 60$ bid range in PL ... - if not you can take PLs best price guarantee). The location is maybe not such good as that one of the both Renaissance hotels in HK, but the rooms should be more up-to-date in the Cosmopolitan (though there's no pool in the Cosmo, if you care for that).
7continentKaren Posted October 22, 2005 Author Report Posted October 22, 2005 Even the Cosmopolitan is $168/night avg for that stay. I tried all sorts of combos last night when I could not sleep...mixing up dates, etc. Trying on the nights when most of the hotels were cheap. Nothing worked. I finally booked the New World Ren at $154/night/double Marriott points for 4 nights, 2 nights on an award. Hoping against hope that Ren will give our poor Silver status an upgrade to a king. I booked the free nights first, thinking they would be more apt to give us a king on an award, then, maybe, not make us move for the next 4 nights. :) 5* 10/29 -10/31 $100 W HK and TST4* " 70 " 5* 10/28 - 10/31 120 TST only4* " 85 TST only4* 10/27 - 10/31 95 TST only4* 10/26 - 10/31 100 TST onlyNO NO NO! I got so tired I quit.
Chris26WI Posted October 22, 2005 Report Posted October 22, 2005 Ok, probably the best you could do. October is usually a busy month for Hong Kong with high rates everywhere.
AEmgee Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Chris,In your experience, does Priceline do well for HK hotels as compared to other consolidators (e.g., wotif, asiarooms)? I've tried up to $80 before taxes and fees (~$93/night after all is said and done) without success for 4* TST January 22-28. Going much beyond that doesn't make too much sense, considering that asiarooms has the New World Renaissance (arguably the best 4* on the PL list) for $102 including all taxes and fees! Thanks for your opinion.AEmgee
Chris26WI Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 Well, it depends... for most of the cases I would tend to say Priceline is worth a try for 5stars in Hongkong... you often get a good deal there - though anyway the saving thanks to Priceline for HK are not as huge as for some other cities. For 4star hotels, I'd say, it depends on the period of the year and of the hotel itself (there's a difference between the Cosmpolitan, the Kowloon, the Eden etc..)... you should always check other sites too. Asiarooms is often doing better than results I achieved in Priceline.. but anyway, it's no problem, as I always got asiarooms offer's accepted for the best price guarantee of Priceline (so in the end I never paid more).
