looi Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Hi, This is the first time Im going to use Priceline. I am looking for a 4* hotel in the MTW and MTE districts. Currently have a regular reservation at the Grand Hyatt for $260. What rates am I looking at through Priceline.. any way I can get 4* for cheaper. Would LOVE to stay at the W Times Square or the Westin. But as long as its 4* Im okay. Any suggestions? I appreciate your help!
thereuare Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! How long ago did you book the Hyatt, as rates are substantially higher now?Are you also willing to bid the UM/CPS zone (most bid those three zones)Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy. looi Posted October 20, 2005 Author Report Posted October 20, 2005 I booked last week at the Hyatt. Its the first time in New York for us. We just started in a competitive corporate environment and been working like crazy for the past couple of months. We want a breather from our crazy consulting lives so we wanted to have an amazing time in NY, so I wasn't too sure what the best location was for clubs/bars. I figured Times Square would be the safest where we can also hit up a broadway show would be best. Do you think UE/UW would fit us also?
thereuare Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Rates at the Grand Hyatt are nearly double that right now ($469/nite)... and given the prices of other htoels i don't think you'll be able to beat it thru Priceline.I would stick with what you have... and the location is good as it's right next to Grand Central so you can get on the subway and go anywhere you want in NYC. looi Posted October 24, 2005 Author Report Posted October 24, 2005 Hi Thereuare, Does it make a difference when you decide to Bid? Ie. if I bid closer to the time of stay will I be more successful getting a better rate. How does the negotiated rate system work between hotel and the prices they elect to send out?
dahammer Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Check out the following postShould I bid close to my arrival date? The priceline system is sort of like a reserve auction where the hotel has a minimum price that they are willing to take for a bid on a room. Right now, prices are high in New York, but in January, prices should moderate. If a hotel manager sees that he has lots of room inventory, he may be inclined to reduce his minimum bid that he will accept. Conversely, if the hotel is near sell out, he will raise the minimum bid or withdraw from accepting bids.
looi Posted November 20, 2005 Author Report Posted November 20, 2005 Stayed at the Hyatt. Awesome stay. Had great corporate rates. Didn't end up re-booking through priceline as I saw alot of people trying to split their days. Grand Hyatt was an beautiful place, the staff gave us a really good deal with a top floor room and view of the Chrysler Building. Thanks for your help.
