oct05 Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 Hi...am looking for some tips. for various reasons I will not know if i am able to make my scheduled trip to NYC until the very last minute, ie the day before i am due to travel. Because of this , I think bidding on priceline the night before I travel is probably the best option for us to find a decent hotel at a decent price...so i am looking for a 4* or higher in midtown for 4 nights Oct 19th to 23rd.....I only realised from here that you can only bid once in 72 hrs so I need a stragety that will help me to get the right hotel by using the re-bidding...however it confuses me! And I am afraid of ending up with an awful hotel! Can anyone help? it would be much appericated! Thanks
thereuare Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Prices can easily change between now and then, so a strategy today may not necessarily be the recommended strategy when you are ready to bid.Let us know when your plans are firm and we'll look at current rates and advise of the best strategy. oct05 Posted October 12, 2005 Author Report Posted October 12, 2005 thanks for that,I suppose the questions is can you book very last minute on priceline? ie the day before scheduled travel...
thereuare Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 In most cities, up until 6pm day of arrival. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dahammer Posted October 12, 2005 Report Posted October 12, 2005 you also may want to consider Hotwire in case your Priceline bidding is not successful. In the NY area, you can buy rooms up to 6:00 PM local time,
oct05 Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 Hi, my dates are firmed up now . So can you recommend a bidding stragety?Preferred areas in order of choice: MTW, MTE, MTS, UM/CPSPreferred hotel rating: 4*Budget: would love to get it for $200 but could stretch to $230 per nightThanks for your help!
oct05 Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 sorry should have included my dates: Oct 19th to Oct 23rd inclusive, ie 4 nights. Thanks!!
thereuare Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 From a quick look at rates it seems very doubtful that you will have success up to your maximum bid... do you have any back-up plan near your maximum bid amount? What will you do if you fail up to $230? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
oct05 Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 after looking at the rates what do you think we should place as our max bid....we can probably go a bit higher.....maybe $250-270thanks
thereuare Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 With two days before your check-in date, you need to based your maximum bid upon what you would/will do if you don't success with priceline. We can then use that price as a maximum and suggest a strategy to make sure you don't overbid, but i think you should look at current rates (they're extremely high) and then use your "next best plan" to guide your bidding strategy. oct05 Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 unfortunately I dont have a back up plan!! And I need a hotel room...any reason why the rates are so high!! I cant figure it out....anyway, can you outline a strategy for the same ciriteria in the range for $200 - $300 per night. I think 300 would be the max and after that will have to look into downgrading the rating , or looking for a hostel! Thanks for your help...hopefully we will find something!!

oct05 Posted October 17, 2005 Author Report Posted October 17, 2005 went to $340 for 4* and didnt get anything.....Am I locked out now for 3 days or can I start bidding on 3* hotels?Thanks.....
thereuare Posted October 17, 2005 Report Posted October 17, 2005 You are not locked-out for 72 hours... you can lower your star rating to be able to bid again immediately. However, at the 3* level you only have one re-bid zone so you'll need to adjust your strategy accordingly. Before lowering your star rating, have you considered SPLITTING YOUR BID?
