your're not bidding for a specific hotel, you're bidding on a hotel with a star (*) rating........

one of these days, I'm getting this tattooed on my arm so I won't forget..... I wanted the 2.5* Country Inn and Suites in Newark, so as usual, started my same day Priceline bidding by accessing the savingsbarn.com website in the lobby of an EWR area hotel. Selected 2.5* and Elizabeth-Newark Airport zone, bid $51 and started to formulate a re-bid strategy that I would use for my next bid as I assumed $51 would fail.....much to my surprise.....

Congratulations, you got your price of $51 for a hotel room, and we've upgraded your hotel quality level to a 3-star hotel. As I scrolled down the screen, I was dreading the thought of being upgraded to the Sheraton Four Points, a property deserving a 3* rating as much as the Bates Motel from Psycho :o I was somewhat relieved:

this is a large 400 room hotel just across the street from the Newark Airport, but you can't get there from here :) My only gripe is that parking is $12 per day and wired High Speed internet is $10. Its a bitter pill to pay $22 for something that is free in most hotels, but the rate on the wyndham.com is $209 plus tax making the "walk out price" $239. The savings makes this bitter pill easier to swallow. :)

This hotel will be converted on November 1 to a Doubletree, so chocolate chip cookies for all...

Thanks for the report (and the use of the links at SavingsBarn.com to begin your bids)... glad to see you didn't get the local Four Points.

Interesting news on the Doubletree, it'll be interesting to see the priceline rates that may come along with this ownership change... maybe they'll also change the outward appearance of this property, as from the outside it isn't much to look at (which is second only to the Ft. Lee Hilton near the GW Bridge :) )

$45 is the minimum for this hotel, so if you do not want to be "upgraded" to this 3* hotel, you should not bid more than $45 for 2.5* free parking Country Inn & Suites...
