Rachel1612 Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Hi,Since a couple of days I'm trying to get a price for 4 nights - with PRICELINE/name your own price.Looking for a 5, 4 1/2 or 4 stars - is this a busy period ? what is a reasonable starting pricefor a 4* for these dates: 120 usd or more between 200-250 ? No idea as a WE is included ?thanks for your helpSorry forgot to mention that I saw different prices for a 4* in TS area: going from 1 night at 199 usd to thelast night ( so monday 28th ) being at 303.- on the official hotel sites.:)
thereuare Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Welcome to BetterBidding! In NYC, weekends are generally less expensive then mid-week nites. For your dates you're likely looking in the $200 area for a 4* hotel in Times Square. Is this the only zoen you're willing to accept? See our comments here: Hotels Near Times Square.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Rachel1612 Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 thanks for your replyI've spent last year - mid-August - 4 nights at Millenium Broadway Hotel with my familly ( 2 parents + 2 teenagers ) - and paid includedall taxes 1.145.- usd using Hotels.com. So I don't want to pay more this time as we will be only 2 and I really appreciatedto be located just next to TS. Let's include also Midtown West.So I will start to bid like this:TS as from 180.- for a 5 starsthen TS at 181.- for a 4.5 starsthen TS at 182.- for a 4 starsthen add TS + Midtown West at 183.- for 5* + 4,5* + 4*then add a free-bidding zone: Long Island City for all 5* + 4,5* + 4* at 184.-then again a new free-bidding zone: Morningside heights - Harlem for all 5* + 4,5* + 4* at 185.-and finally if I don't manage to get something - I will retry tomorrowAs this is not my native language - have I undestood correctly the way of processing it in PRICELINE - Name your own?Thanksadd
thereuare Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Although i think it will take more than $185/nite, i would start lower and bid higher. If you let us know your maximum bid per nite for this trip we will suggest a strategy to follow (at least how i would do it). At current rates, i'm guessing that you'll likely need to be in the $200-$220 area to be successful if bidding for a 4* or better hotel in the TS and MTW zones. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Rachel1612 Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 The maximum would 220 per night - thx for your help :)
thereuare Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 When bidding in NYC you have TEN re-bid zones at the 5* level, SEVEN re-bid zones at the 4.5* level, and TWO re-bid zones at the 4* level. I would bid as follows:I don't think you have much of a chance at the 5* and 4.5* levels, but if you want to try you can bid for these star ratings as follows:Select 5* Times Square...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 5* MTW...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 5* Times Square and MTW...Bid $203, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $208, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $213, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $218, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220If the above is rejected you can close the browser and repeat at the 4.5* level. If this too is rejected you can then bid as follows at the 4* level:Select 4* TS...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTW...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS and MTW...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195If this too is rejected (very possible) wait 24 hours, repeat the 4.5* and 5* bidding if you'd like and then re-try at the 4* level as follows (once again using a PRICELINE link from the board and not a link for any emails that priceline may send informing you that you're eligible to bid again):Select 4* TS...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTW...Bid $200, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $205, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $210, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS and MTW...Bid $215, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $218, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $220Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Rachel1612 Posted August 14, 2013 Author Report Posted August 14, 2013 So since a couple of days I'm trying...and trying to bid but no way to get something under $210. I didn't tryover $ 210 - as there is a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal at $ 233/night for a 4* in Times Sq. for my period.Any idea about which one it is?Pets AllowedBuisnes Center Fitness Center Guest Score: 8.00 out of 10Thanks for your help
thereuare Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 My guess for this one would be the Hilton Times Square. However, if you use the 10% discount code link in my signature this $233/nite hotel is lowered to $210/nite, the maximum bid you have already made for a 4* hotel in this zone. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
