wheely Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 Hi, Looking for a 2 night stopover in NY from 10th-12th OctoberPrepared to stay in any of the following areas, preferably in the order listed (but not fussed):ESBTSMTECPSMTWHKCA?Hoping not to spend more than $200 inc tax if possible. Is this realistic?Using the PRICELINE link on here I've bid up to $180 so far, but with no luck.Any help much appreciatedThanksI used the re-bid zones for the 4* hotels,
AaronJB Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Please provide an update for your San Francisco Priceline thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread and we would be happy to take a look at the above stay.)Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
wheely Posted July 19, 2013 Author Report Posted July 19, 2013 Thanks. Reply posted. Sticking with the hotel we purchased through Priceline. Trying for NY and Vegas now! Fingers crossed
thereuare Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Can you please reply to your San Francisco hotel thread confirming that the Majestic was a 'retail' purchase where you knew the name beforehand. Thanks. For NYC...As you're finding this is an expensive time in the city and your $180 bids have already exceeded your target $200 all-in budget. I think you can likely get the 2nd nite of your stay at levels you have already bid, but at this time the first nite is somewhat more expensive... i assume SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is not an option for this two nite stay?Since you've already exceeded your budget, do you want to:wait it out and hope or lower rates in the weeks aheadlower your star ratingincrease your budgetconsider other zones (such as Downtown which may be a little less expensive)think about SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BIDThanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise further. wheely Posted July 30, 2013 Author Report Posted July 30, 2013 Thanks. I dont really want to split our bid, as we will be at the end of a long holiday, and as we are only staying for 2 nights, I dont want to be moving around really.Equally, I dont really want to drop beliow 3.5*, as some of the options look a bit ropey and a bit small.I will probably up my budget a bit, but failing that, have a look at apartment options for our stay, as some proces seem quite reasonable. Thanks for all you helpNeil

wheely Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 Just managed to book the Lexington on Lexington & 48th for 2 nights on Oct 10th/11th for only $120/night for both nights, through the Priceline website. It appears to have been taken over by Marriott as part of their autograph collection.I've only booked a queen size room (size doesn't matter, she says). What have I missed? Cheapest I can find it anywhere else is nearly $600!It says I can cancel up to Oct 8th. I know there may be renovations going on, but that's not mentioned on the booking, so I don't expect to have a half finished room or be in the middle of a demolition site.If I've not been stitched up, I'm happy.
wheely Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 I think I've just booked the Lexington Autograph, through Priceline for $120/night!!!My 'too good to be true' radar is working overtime though! Thanks for the help. Now to check out the Vegas forum
AaronJB Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 A property at this star rating for $120 for October is most likely a price mistake. The only concern would be whether the hotel will honor it, but if they don't I would ask for some sort of compensation. Hopefully they do honor it with no issues. Rather than calling, you *should* be able to look up your reservation on the Marriott website.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Twirlie Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 I just booked it too! lol. It was giving me rates of $101 for my dates of the 16th-20th October. Please keep me updated if you hear anything about it being a mistake and them not honouring it.
Twirlie Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 I looked my reservation up on the Marriott link you provided and got:Dates Check-in: Wednesday, October 16, 2013 Check-out: Sunday, October 20, 2013 Number of rooms: 1 Guests per room: 2Room(s) Cozy, Guest room, 1 Queen Room detailsLooks promising to me?!

wheely Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 My booking seems to come up ok too.Fingers crossed then?!
Twirlie Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Fingers crossed, toes crossed, eyes crossed - you name it! :PEverytime my email has pinged since, I've jumped a mile in the air!Just so you know, the two queens are NOT the same. The first one, the cozy queen has just a bed and seems small. The second same priced one has a living area. I cancelled my cozy reservation and booked the living area one. All seems fine... so far. Just hoping Priceline honours it. I will slate them on twitter if they don't! haha! xAaronJB - I click on your links everytime! You must have had hundreds of clicks from me over the last few days. :)
wheely Posted September 3, 2013 Author Report Posted September 3, 2013 Mine had the living area on the booking confirmation, so all good. Thanks for the tip though. Still rooms left if anyone is looking. Just don't forget to use the PRICELINE link from here though

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Enjoy your stay. Twirlie Posted September 3, 2013 Report Posted September 3, 2013 Its now gone back to full price. $343 for the rooms we booked!
Twirlie Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Hey, since you're there a week before me can you let me know if you have any issues checking in? So far my reservation looks fine but I'm still nervous as I'm travelling with a child. I also read somewhere that if you like them on facebook you get a free upgrade. I'd be happy to be in a broom cupboard for the price we paid, but I've liked them on facebook anyway just on the off chance it does indeed work! Also from their facebook it looks like renovations are mostly done! :)Only a few weeks now until we go.. we're very excited! haha! x
wheely Posted October 10, 2013 Author Report Posted October 10, 2013 Checked in today. All good. Reasonable sized room and bathroom for NYC. 21st floor. Good decor and fittings. Comfy bed. No problems checking in. Only minor downside is a corporate function tonight, meaning the bar and lobby is out of bounds. Now, are there any other bars in New York?Very pleased for the bottom dollar rate. Enjoy your stay!
Twirlie Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Thank you so much for letting me know! We fly tomorrow so I've been worrying! :)Bars - I'm assuming you found some, but for future reference Cornerstone in MTE is apparently a local hangout. We had a BLAST at Little Branch (20 7th Ave South) - Its a speakeasy type in a basement. Really cool vibe! I still have their business card on my PC wall. Makes me smile everytime I see it! :)Really appreciate the update! :) Thank you x
