lynn24 Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 Hi BetterBidding friends! I'm looking for some help/advice about bidding for a hotel in Vancouver, BC for Mon Aug 26th to Tues Aug 27th (1 night) for 1 person.I've been eyeing prices on Hotwire (and of course, I used the HOTWIRE / PRICELINE links for this!) and I saw a 4* room for $100/night in Downtown Vancouver, so I'm hoping to score a 3.5* or 4* hotel for less than $100.Aside from Downtown Vancouver, what other zones are safe bets for clean, safe, non-smoking hotels with convenient access to subway? Hoping to keep the total cost to a minimum and am open to looking at other zones. If I could get a suggested bidding strategy, that would be awesome too! Also, should I start bidding now or wait until the date is closer? Thanks in advance!PS. I used and will continue to use the HOTWIRE / PRICELINE links! You guys are awesome! :)

lynn24 Posted July 19, 2013 Author Report Posted July 19, 2013 Oops! I forgot about it since it was so long ago... done! :)
thereuare Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Did you want to first try for a 4* hotel up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5*... or is the goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip? Also, is the Granville Entertainment District acceptable?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. lynn24 Posted July 19, 2013 Author Report Posted July 19, 2013 A 4* would be a nice bonus, but I guess the goal is least expensive 3.5* or better. I'm not too familiar with the Vancouver zones, but as long as the hotels are clean, safe and within reasonable distance of public transit, I'm open to bidding on them... Especially if it results in huge savings! Thanks for the help so far!
thereuare Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Are you referring to bus service? I don't have firsthand knowledge of mass transit in this area as i was only in Vancouver once for a pre-cruise stay and we took taxis for the brief time we were there, but if you look at this Bus Map it would seem that the area is pretty well covered.I believe the 'Downtown' zone is bid a little more frequently than the Entertainment District, but i don't think that either would be considered 'inconvenient'.It does appear that you can get a 4* hotel within your budget, so please confirm if you want to first try a 4* up to $100 OR if you'd prefer the a less expensive 3.5* for this trip.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. lynn24 Posted July 20, 2013 Author Report Posted July 20, 2013 I'd prefer a less expensive 3.5* for this trip... Thanks so far for your help!
thereuare Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 Which zone(s) are you willing to accept... both of the above or just one of them? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted July 21, 2013 Report Posted July 21, 2013 When bidding 3.5* in Vancouver you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* Downtown...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $78, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* Entertainment District...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $78, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* Downtown and Entertainment District...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90If the above is rejected PRICELINE express has a 4* hotel in the Entertainment District for $94/nite (Indoor or Outdoor Pool, Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Free Internet, Fitness Center) and i would take that offer. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Good luck and let us know how it goes. lynn24 Posted August 20, 2013 Author Report Posted August 20, 2013 I just wanted to update and say that I wasn't able to secure a booking in my price range before everything went up in price. I ended up making alternate arrangements. Thanks again for all the help and advice. I definitely used the PRICELINE link to do my searches and bidding.
