eyelandoc Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Used the PRICELINE link. My goal was less than $140 total with taxes & fees/night for 5 nights, Oct 7-12 but I had no luck with 5* bids ($101/110/115/120/125) or 4* ($65/75). I then tried for each night separately, Oct 7th 4* ($85/100) and Oct 8th 5* ($123/124/125), 4* ($90/101) with no win. I did some research on the rates offered by PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals, and the rates were much higher for Monday, Oct 7th to Wednesday. Express Deals offered a 4* Central Canals hotel for $100 per night for Oct 10-12, so I did a 4* re-bid for those nights starting at $85 and then jumped up to $90 and won. I was hoping for a better deal being that this is later in the peak season but maybe the prices are high due to the dates being so close to Octoberfest??? I have no clue. I'm thinking of staying at a B&B for the first 3 nights if I can't score a deal for those nights. Hope this info helps somebody out there. thereuare Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Congratulations on your success! Rates could be higher for these dates for any number of reasons, but ultimately it boils down to supply vs. demand, so something (high-season, Octoberfest, convention, political meetings, etc) is taking place that is indicating high enough demand so that the absolute lowest rates are not currently available for these dates.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. eyelandoc Posted July 9, 2013 Author Report Posted July 9, 2013 FYI: I just booked a B&B for the three nights prior, and the B&B host stated that the time I am travelling is still considered high-season, thus the high rates. Happy with the B&B being 89 Euro/night + 5.5% tourist tax. B&B is Crown B&B Amsterdam.
