We booked Oceanside suites through your HOTWIRE link as a last minute getaway. Booked around 11 am today and arrived around 2 pm. When we arrived, they apologized that there wa a computer glitch and they could not accommodate our reservation. They sent us down the street to the holiday inn. I was pretty upset since we were happy with the Oceanside suites and looked forward to staying there.

I called Hotwire and they said they would research the situation and contact me in 7-10 business days.

Just curious if anyone knows how Hotwire usually handles situations like this?

Sorry to hear about the situation - overbooking is rare, but unfortunately it occasionally happens.

Please let us know the details of the Oceanside Suites booking (date/s, zone, amenities, price per night before taxes/fees, star rating) and we would be happy to offer our thoughts on the situation and how to proceed.

Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks for the follow-up (but please begin to share your results as you receive them so that the information can help others in a timely manner... not after the fact once you have a problem)

What is customary in the industry is that you get the first nite free when you are 'walked' (industry term for when the hotel is unable to accommodate your reservation) to another property. This has become a bit more complicated over the years as now consumers don't always purchase their rooms directly with the hotel was not necessarily the one who collected payment.

I would wait to hear back from HOTWIRE and see what they offer, but my goal would be a refund for the nite. If they are unwilling to do so, i would seek the amount of your previous purchase in a HOTWIRE credit (they call them HotDollars) to be used on a future HOTWIRE purchase. I think either of these would be more than fair.

Let us know how things ultimately work out.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Good luck.

Thanks for your insight. I will definitely update you once we've come to a resolution. Sorry I didn't post my win right away. It's been a hectic day and I'm still wound up about what happened. I Normally do post a win ASAP and will in the future. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and I've been in a tizzy all day.

Just wanted to follow up with hotwire's resolution. They ended up crediting my credit card in full for the $186 paid and gave me $25 credit in Hotwire bucks. I'm happy with the way they treated my issue.
