7continentKaren Posted September 24, 2005 Report Posted September 24, 2005 Yes, well, I thought I knew the system but failed to read the fine print about how they are allowed to gift you with an upgrade and you have to take it. So, never play the silly games with a location that has stars higher than what you want. I was looking for 2 1/2* Hoover, AL near my brother's house. At first I got a message after bidding $35 (Courtyard) for a 2 1/2* that with a $9 increase I could have this bid. BUT, silly me, I went back in to see if I could get it cheaper by adding a location that did not have 2 1/2* and bidding $40. It was for 5 nights, 2 rooms but the hotel was selling for $149 so I should have just grabbed the $44. It would not take the $40 and made no offers. So I went in again, adding another location without 2 1/2* but having 3* (downtown) and bid $35 again. It again offered me $44 so I took it. Then it happily informed me how lucky I was that I was upgraded to a 3*. Yep, downtown at the Sheraton. About a 10 mi drive from my brother's. Oh well. Parking is only $5 at least but no free breakfast. Hopefully this saga will help someone and hopefully I will remember for next time. This is the first upgrade I have ever been given by Priceline.
