slow Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 need 4 rooms. I see others have gotten the hotels for under 50. Am I bidding too early. I don't see any events in the area. It's probably that they don't have both days under 50. Should I make 2 separate bids for each day.oops, can't edit title? wanted to put 3*
dahammer Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 what is your bid history? At the 3* level, there are two rebid zones available.
slow Posted September 19, 2005 Author Report Posted September 19, 2005 Started with 4* at 45 rejectedadded 3* at 50 rejectedI was looking for a 3* DT hotel under 50, say $46. Is that too low? i.e. if I wait and bid later?I see that at the same time last year, bids in low 40s were getting 4*
dahammer Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 in the philadelpia area, you have two addtional rebid opportunities at the 3* level, this will allow you three chances to bid. You might want to read the following thread to familiarize yourself with rebidding, its one of the key points that will increase your chances for a winning bid.Priceline Rebidding Explainedsome of the $50 wins were during the summer and some folks have paid $100 for a 3* room. The problem with waiting is that room rates can increase during your time period. Do you have a maximum bid amount? Would you consider other area besides downtown?
slow Posted September 19, 2005 Author Report Posted September 19, 2005 thanks. The max is $50 and it has to be downtown.I have read the rebidding section. Am I missing something with the rebidding? If I rebid in 3*, I'd have to increase the price, right? The low $40s for 4* wins were in November of 2004. What is interesting though is that a lot of them are for 1 day only.Is there a post or section of the site which discusses when to bid (how many weeks before?)
dahammer Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Check out this thread:Should I bid early or late to arrival dateyou may want to read the part about Rebidding again. When you rebid, you need to add an additional zone. Look at all of the zones in the Philly area again, there are 8 zones. Two of the eight zones do not have 3* rated hotels, can you list these? You will want to open your bid in the Downtown Zone, then if you fail, increase your bid and add one of these zones as a "rebid" since you will have no chance of winning in these zones since your minimum acceptable rating is a 3* hotel. In these two zones, the highest rating in one zone is 2* and 2.5* in the other. Now, what happens if you don't get a room for $50 per night?
slow Posted September 23, 2005 Author Report Posted September 23, 2005 I understand the rebidding process (I think), however I my max is 50 and I strike out with 3* at that price then I cannot increase (unless I missed some huge point). If I cannot get rooms at $50 then someone is sleeping at the Y :-)
slow Posted September 27, 2005 Author Report Posted September 27, 2005 Any reason to bid on 1 or 2 rooms at a time instead of all 4 at once?
thereuare Posted September 27, 2005 Report Posted September 27, 2005 Shouldn't make a difference unless one hotel only had availability for less than the number of rooms you're bidding for. This also opens the possibilty of receiving dfferent hotels.
