Shoob Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Hey guys,This will be the 3rd stop on our trip around Lake Erie. I am still unsure if I will check-in here on the 1st or the 2nd... it will depend on how long we plan on staying in Toronto (which depends on whether it is worth staying in Niagara for two days or not). Any ideas? Is Niagara Falls good for a single day or would two days be more worth it?As for the hotel... I have noticed that people on here have winning bids around the $55 to $70 range at 3.5* or 4*. Is that doable for my dates (6/1-6/3 or 6/2-6/3)? I'm willing to pay up to about $80 for this stay (obviously, less is always better) because I would think my wife would enjoy being close to the falls. As always, all help is greatly appreciated!!!-Shoob
thereuare Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I think whether 1-2 days in Niagara Falls vs. time in Toronto depends on how much you are a nature lover vs. city person. My wife was in Niagara Falls not too long ago on a 'girls weekend' and she said one day would likely be enough, but for somebody who is really into nature i could see how a longer time could be worthwhile.Let us know once you confirm your dates and we'll have a look at rates at that time. Shoob Posted May 24, 2013 Author Report Posted May 24, 2013 Okay, Thereuare, after discussing it for a while... we've decided 2 days in Toronto... meaning, two days in Niagara. There seems to be plenty to do in Niagara, and staying there longer might be best. So, given that PRICELINE seems to only have 4* available in the "Niagara Falls" zone (making the rest free rebids for 4*), I'd like to go for a 4* Those seem to be right by the falls... please correct me if I'm wrong! So let's get this started! :D
thereuare Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 Yes, you have FOUR re-bid zones when bidding 4* in the Niagara Falls region. While i think $70 may not be enough for a 4* hotel you can try as follows:Select 4* Niagara Falls...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Shoob Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 Okay, so I went all the way up to $85 with no luck... I mean, I know it's a 4* attempt, but I really thought I would nail a room at that high of a bid. Possible that I could win tomorrow at around the same? New strategy?
thereuare Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Yes, it's possible that a bid that failed today will be successful tomorrow if a hotel in the zone at the star rating you're bidding has lowered their room rate, but with just 5 days until arrival i think this would be a low probability bet.I think you're likely looking in the $95-$115/nite ballpark for these nites. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Shoob Posted May 26, 2013 Author Report Posted May 26, 2013 Thanks for that info. I'd like to try once more today, starting at $75 this time and going to a max of $95. I'll see about going higher if that doesn't pan out. Thoughts? Just want a nice hotel right by the Falls for this trip...
AaronJB Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 I'd agree that the likely range is $95-115, although it's worth starting at $75 and slowly working higher.Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Shoob Posted May 30, 2013 Author Report Posted May 30, 2013 Hey all,As I've noted in other posts, change of plans. We are now planning on staying at Niagara Falls on 6/3 & 6/4. My assumption is that the rates will now be cheaper given that it's a Monday and Tuesday... am I right? Anyways, I'd still like to stay right by the Falls. How should I bid?
thereuare Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Using your FOUR re-bid zones i would try as follows:Select 4* Niagara Falls...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75While this may prove to be too low i would bid this today and if rejected we can revise to try again tomorrow.Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases (every time you access the respective sites).Good luck and let us know how it goes. Shoob Posted May 31, 2013 Author Report Posted May 31, 2013 Just got a win. $61/night at the Marriott Gateway On the Falls (4*). I hope this will be worth it! I see a lot of people complaining of the steep parking rates ($20/night) and that guests have to pay extra ($40) for an upgrade to a "Falls view" room at check-in (not sure how worth the extra cost really is).
AaronJB Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 Congrats on your success. :)Really, really nice deal for this property. If it's a slower couple of nights, hopefully something can be worked out regarding an upgrade.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
Shoob Posted June 9, 2013 Author Report Posted June 9, 2013 Thanks! And now, I have a quick update... I was given a 5th story "cityview" room, but with some bargaining got a 24th story, "fallsview" room... breath-taking view for a mere $15 extra per night. More than worth it!!!
AaronJB Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Very reasonable deal for the upgrade - glad you were able to work something out with the hotel.Enjoy your stay. :)
kashi Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 I am trying to book a 4* in the St.Catherines area for July 12th weekend. May be a Marriott or Sheratong, when a bid is reject the first time you say increase by a couple of dollars and add a re-bid zone. How do I re-bid a zone for a higher price? Where can I find the re-bid option?
yellowdog Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 kashiThe board would be happy to help you. But please start a new topic for your own stay and we'll be happy to take a look at this. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchases and searches.Yellowdog.
