Priceline Hotel: 2.5* Troy Best Western Plus Franklin Square Inn Troy/Albany

Hi, I have studied the lists of known hotels for Priceline and Hotwire for Troy New York. Would really like to be in Troy, not Albany. There does not appear to be a category for Troy on the BB Priceline List. I tried going through your site to Priceline directly and it appears to have a Troy Category with a 2.5 star and 2 star hotel available. Could someone advise?

If the zone is not listed in the Priceline Hotel List then it is likely either a new zone OR we have not yet had any hotels reported to the board in this area.

The Best Western would be at least one possibility at the 2.5* level, but there could be others too... i don't have any guess for what the 2* hotel might be.

What is the best rate you're able to find for an acceptable hotel in this area for this nite? What is your maximum bid? How high are you willing to bid for a 2.5* property before lowering your star rating to 2 star... OR is your goal the least expensive 2* or better for this trip?

This is what I was wondering, if it is a new zone.

The two hotels I found in this zone would both be great, the Hilton Garden Inn or the Best Western Plus Franklin. I have studied Google maps and various travel hub sites and it appears there are some independents that come up regularly--an Olde Judges B&B surprisingly and also sometimes seeing a Cannon Suites that looks iffy. I do not want either of those because of the variability/fake reviews potential etc; also want parking. BTW I do not understand how you know the # of stars for an independent property.

I am finding generally $123 and $127 across the board for my two targeted properties. Once I found $116 for the BW Plus.

I would like to get less than $100 and $80 would be great. I cannot do HOTWIRE as their zone incldes a hotel 10 miles away I do not want. I would definitely use the links on this site if I go the PRICELINE route. Thanks for any further tips.

BTW I do not understand how you know the # of stars for an independent property.

Each travel provider rates hotels based upon their own criteria, so a specific property may be 2* rated thru one service and 2.5* rated through a different service.

Do you want to first try for a 2.5* up to $80 (or up to $100) before lowering your star rating to 2*... OR is your goal the least expensive 2* or better in this zone? Are you willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you choose? I don't seem to recall ever seeing a B&B received thru the 'bidding' side of PRICELINE's service, so while things can certainly change, i wouldn't think the B&B is a higher probability.

I did go ahead and bid this successfully, using the Better Bidding link to PRICELINE.

Bid a 2.5 for $80 Zone Troy and was unsuccessful.

Bid 2.5 of Troy + 1 free rebid zone (Bennington) for $90 and got the bid. Hotel is the Best Western Plus Franklin, as guessed in prior post.

Amenities from Best Western site include Breakfast, Non-Smoking, Flat Screen Television, Refrigerator, High Speed Internet Access, Coffee Maker.

Notes: I had only one more rebid zone, before dropping to the 2.0-star which I was not keen to do since there was an unknown there.

Full rate on Best Western Site is $150, and Travelocity/Expedia type sites were offering $123-127, with one brief $116.
