wishing2008 Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 Hi, is there any strategy for bidding 2/19-2/25/13? I booked airfare without checking hotels. I thought hotels would be available, but most of the hotels are all sold out due to Winter Break. I'm looking for a 3 star or above. So far I've found a 2 star (which I'm not keen on) and a 4.5 star for $3K-4K+. Any help would be appreciated. What would be reasonable to bid for a 3, 4 or resort? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

wishing2008 Posted January 27, 2013 Author Report Posted January 27, 2013 I'm interested in the Wailea-Makena & Ka'anapali-Lahaina zones. My budget is $250-300/nt. but it may be too low since PRICELINE shows the Grand Wailea for $639. In the K-L zone, the Westin K-L Ocean Resorts Villa is $712. On HOTWIRE there's only 1 hotel - the Wailea-Makena area is $642. Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?HOTWIRE has a 3* Condo offered for 2/19-2/22 for $238/nite with:Free Parking Free Internet Beachfront Studio Kitchen Shuttle Daily Housekeeping A/C Laundry Pool 24hr Front Desk Hi-Speed Internet Golf Tennis Condo Unfortunately this property has not yet been identified but it does show a very good 4.0/5.0 TA rating. However, even if you go for this offer note that you're remaining dates will still be difficult and expensive... but at least you'll only have 3 nites left to fill-in vs. all 6 nites. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. wishing2008 Posted January 28, 2013 Author Report Posted January 28, 2013 I looked & the condo is gone. I'm open to splitting my dates--looked on HOTWIRE & there's only 2-2.5 stars or the 4 stars for $500+. I also just bid on PRICELINE up to $300 with no luck for 4 star. I'm going to see if I can get a condo rental by owner. Thanks for your help anyways.
falafel23 Posted January 28, 2013 Report Posted January 28, 2013 A little off topic, but how many states have a February winter break? I grew up in Illinois, and we never had this break. Now that my kids go to school in Mass, and they have a week off in February, I actually thought that it would be a good week to take a vacation, since I thought it was pretty limited, but I guess I'm wrong?Anyway, good luck with your search.

Here4Beer Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Wondering is there is a big golf tournament or something on Maui that week. It is the week after President's Day but not the holiday w/e (your arrival is the Tuesday after the holiday).I can't imagine that is a peak time throughout the islands. Considering going to the Big Island, Oahu or Kauai from Maui. Roberts Hawaii (travel company) used to book overnighters (which you can extend) that include airfare and hotel if you want it. If you don't mind being away from the action on Oahu, the Ko Olina resort will likely have quality accomodations discounted. Kauai can be iffy during the winter (rain). Take a look at some island hopping. Should be fun. Good luck.
wishing2008 Posted February 1, 2013 Author Report Posted February 1, 2013 Thank you all for your suggestions. Apparently it is peak season in HI with school winter breaks on the mainland, Vday & Pres. Day. I have decided to use vrbo to rent a place. I found something in Kihei. Thanks again.
