Priceline Hotel: 5* Las Vegas (Strip North) bidding strategy advice

Used this site to get a priceline hotel deal for the Vdara in October 2012. My husband and I are going back to Vegas again between 01/16/13-01/19/13 (Wednes-Sat) and would like to get a Strip North hotel this time. I see from two recent posts that two people got the Wynn from $72-$75/night! I would love to get that price for any 5* Strip North hotel! There is another couple going who would like their own room. Does anyone know if room rates are cheaper if I bid on 2 rooms (for the other couple who will reimburse me) than if I bid on one room? If it doesn't make a difference, I'd rather bid for one room.

It's been a few months since I last bid and I can't locate the rebidding strategy post for priceline. Would like your advice on a bidding strategy with the following goal in mind:

I would like 5* STRIP NORTH up to $110 (Wednes-Sat 01/16/13-01/19/13 dates not flexible)

If all bids for 5* Strip North are rejected then willing to go for 5* STRIP SOUTH up to $100/night

Since my stay includes a weekend (Friday), not sure if I should take my chance and bid from Wednes-Fri assuming a lower price will be accepted then hope there is an add a night option for the same price. Anyone know the likelihood of add a night option being offered with the 5* Strip North?

thanks

I'm assuming that these wins were likely in December which is one of the slowest months in Vegas and/or didn't include any weekend nites.

The risk in you each bidding separately is that the other couple could receive a different hotel (even if you bid within seconds/minutes of each other)... if you want to make sure you both receive the same hotel then you should bid for two rooms in the same bid.

The feature may likely be offered, but just because it's offered doesn't mean that there will be availability, only that you can try to extend the stay an additional nite. As well, if there is availability, it almost certainly will NOT be at the same price as your previous mid-week nites.

I'm doubtful that you will be successful in the Strip North zone, but likely will be successful in the Strip South zone. If you're ready to start bidding, at the 5* level in Vegas you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

I bid on Strip North using the rebidding strategy but my max of $110 was rejected :o

After that, I went for Strip South up to $95 which was also declined.

I looked at hotwire after the losses and noticed they usually have Strip South offerings for $110/night so I may have to increase my budget a tad and go that route since this board may help me ID some of the hotels.

The priceline maps tool shows that there have been 3 exceptionally-priced wins in January for the Wynn that include weekend stays:

1/2/13-1/5/13 (Wednes-Sat) $72

1/4/13-/1/6/13 (Fri-Sun) $70

1/11/13-1/14/13 (Fri-Mon) $78

My stay (1/16/13-1/19/13 Wednes-Sat) only includes one weekend so I may have a good chance for the Wynn or any of the 5* Strip North around that rate! Considering the above successes, I may keep trying a few more times staring from $80 with the same budge of $110 with the assumption that each day's offerings may be different.

If that doesn't work, another consideration is going for the 4* hotel but with a lower max bid in mind.

Not really... rates are date specific and can vary substantially from one day to the next (or from one week to the next).

Use MAPS and HOTELS.com and see rates at the Wynn for the dates above vs. the rate for your dates. You'll see retail rates for the dates of the wins above in the $125-$175 range... whereas for your dates rates are $300+.

  • 3 weeks later...

I bid again up to $120 for the Strip North but still unsuccessful. I ended up getting a promotion that MGM Resorts International emailed me. I got a promotion which offers 2 free tickets when booking at least a 2 night stay at one of their 9 MGM casinos. Monte Carlo was the cheapest deal found:

I chose 2 free show tickets to Cirque du Soleil's Ka with the following booking at Monte Carlo:

Arrival: 1/16/2013

Departure: 1/19/2013

Nightly rates:

1/16/2013: $68.00

1/17/2013: $68.00

1/18/2013: $68.00

Total Tax: $31.68

**Room tax is subject to change.

Total including tax and resort fee: $295.68

The nightly rates are probably higher than what can be found at discount sites but the show tickets are probably worth $215. The difference of the hotel after taxes and resort fees and tickets is about $80. We planned on getting show tickets anyways so this deal worked out well for us. This was a sweet deal I couldn't resist!

I'll be back for betterbidding advice on my next trip. I'm still looking to score a 5* North Strip in the future.
