My best guess for the 2* would be the Extended Stay America San Diego/Carlsbad Village by the Sea while my guess for the 2.5* would be the Ramada Carlsbad.

I just ended up booking the Econo Lodge Carlsbad, through their Choice hotel website. Advanced purchase rate with tax. $56
