namiko720 Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 So I'll be in Philly for 4 nights. Would love to pay about $40 for a decent hotel at least 2*s. What's the best way to get a good deal? Bid on priceline? Does the number of night stays affect whether the bid is rejected? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
thereuare Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Priceline must have access to inventory for each nite of your stay as your bid price, that is the only aspect where the number of nites affects your acceptance/rejected.Remember that you are buying an opaque product, so when you bid on 2* properties, you have to be willing to accept any 2* hotel that priceline gives you (as per their own rating criteria)... this may or may not be considered 'decent' by your own standards.I don't know your needs and/or your budget, but i woul suggest sticking to at least 2.5* quality properties. I haven't looked at rates for your dates yet (will do once you confirm you think you'd be happy with a 2* property), but this area is often not expenisve, and you may even be able to get something in the 3* range if you can raise your maximum bid by $15/nite or so.Let us know your thoughts. namiko720 Posted August 14, 2005 Author Report Posted August 14, 2005 I only need a hotel to sleep in as I will be out exploring the city everyday and definately not in the hotel room. So, as long as there's a bed, the bathroom is clean, and it doesn't stink, I'd be okay with it. I would love to save as much money as I can, so that I will have more money to spend on sight seeing and stuff like that. I guess a 2.5* hotel is a good target. I'll take what I can. Also, should I be concerned about how far in advance I should book a room? Is it better to book early? I'm afraid there won't be rooms available if I book a week before going. Any thoughts?
thereuare Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 You're certainly not too far away to be bidding, i would begin to bid now (and sooner if you had posted prior). At the 2.5* level you only have one re-bid zone available, if you're not sure which it is please read RE-BIDDING EXPLAINED and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zone with the board.Simply by few 2.5* rated hotels in this area i don't think you're chances are very good, but i would bid as follows:Select 2.5* Downtown....Bid $35, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $40.Any questions feel free to ask and let us know how it goes. namiko720 Posted August 19, 2005 Author Report Posted August 19, 2005 Tried bidding as you said, got rejected. I think I'll try and add another zone.
namiko720 Posted August 24, 2005 Author Report Posted August 24, 2005 $45 was accepted in downtown historical district and was upgraded to a 3* hotel. :))
thereuare Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 ... what hotel did you receive? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
namiko720 Posted August 25, 2005 Author Report Posted August 25, 2005 Holiday Inn. I've seen mixed reviews about this place, so I wonder why it's considered a 3* hotel.
dahammer Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 here is a review from the board Holiday Inn Philadelphia This hotel is probably a 2.5*, so it is inflated at most .5*, but if you are in town to do the tourist stuff, the location cannot be beat, and at $45 per night, you got a terriffic deal. The rate for this hotel is $165, so your total for 4 nights is slightly more than others pay for one night. :)
