surfersnowgirl Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 We are going to be in Vegas October 12-14 which is a frida through sunday. We got rejected on our bids last night for a 4 or 5 star hotel for $120. We are running out of time and need to book tonight. What are reasonable 4 or 5 star bid prices for a friday and saturday night in vegas. Help please, new at this!!Thank you.
Romelle Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Are you familiar with free re-bidding? There is discussion about it in the FAQs. Essentially, you bid zones in which there is nothing at your star level (or higher). Las Vegas is particularly good for the technique since there are many useable zones at the 4 and 5* levels. It would be a good idea to post back here with your assumed list of free re-bid zones so somebody can double-check it for you. Also, take a look at what HOTWIRE, some of the sites like Expedia, and even some of the hotel web sites have to offer. It is always a good idea to know your worst case option. People have merrily bid right by a good alternative, and been quite frustrated when they learned what they had done. Are you planning to stay 2 nights or 3? RomellePS - I just looked. HOTWIRE has a $114 4* Strip South for check-in Oct 12/check-out Oct 14 (2 nights). If it might work for you, and you'd like an educated guess as to what hotel it might be, you can post the amenities back here and one of the experts will give you that.
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 What would be your desired budget per night for this stay? A 5* unfortunately is going to take a higher bid - you're likely not far from a win at the 4* level in Strip North/South - I'm guessing $130-140 is likely what it will require.I'm unfortunately not seeing a 4* for $114 in Strip South for these dates on HOTWIRE when searching, but if you are seeing that, I'd take it. I'm seeing a 4* Strip South for $145.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Romelle Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 I know you are on a tight schedule, so I'll clean this up for you. The people that do the detective work find it easier/quicker/less mistake prone to look at just the list of amenities. If you'd like to try it yourself, the basic process is to compare this list to the lists of hotels in the Nevada - HOTWIRE area. These are ones other members have reported here. The experts have additional historical information and insight, but you'll get the general idea. The hotels change the lists regularly, but the detection success rate is still pretty good.Since that $114 hotel wasn't there when AaronJB looked, it likely is one that comes and goes on HOTWIRE. If you don't see it when you look back, just wait a bit. On the other hand, if it is there and you are happy with it, don't wait around to book. surfersnowgirl Posted October 4, 2012 Author Report Posted October 4, 2012 It was wierd my boyfrined went on hotwire and saw the 4 star for $114 on the south strip. I went on my laptop and couldn't find it. Anyway, we noticed it had a resort fee so this would bring the nightly cost up to $134 a night so we were hesitant. I went onto priceline and picked north strip 4 star and made a bid for $135. It was accepted and we indeed got Monte Carlo. I just didn't want Imperial palace or the like. I've stayed at MC before and was very happy to get this. I think we got a deal cause rooms on pricline for Monte Carlo were going for $180 so I'm happy with $135. Thank you to everyone who replied. We are new to this whole hotwire and pricline bidding thing so its a little unnverving lol.
JonathanK Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 You would never have gotten Imperial Palace since it's a 3* property and you only chose 4 or 5 stars. You would have been safe from it.
