Planning to begin bidding for a 4* in TS for Oct 13-16 and am hoping to stay around $200 - $210. I have some time and am willing to rebid daily if needed. Might be willing to include MTW and CPS later if unsuccessful in a couple weeks. I am concerned about the resort fees that can be charged and concerned about possibilities of bed bugs. Tips appreciated. Planning to go through this site for access.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

While you do still have some time, at current rates i don't think $200 is likely going to be realistic for these dates in the Times Square zone and you'll probably need to be closer to $300/nite than $200/nite.

I'll add that although we often hear "i need to be in Times Square" you'll find that you will spend far less time here than you think, as discussed in Hotels Near Times Square thread. NYC is so compact and the zones so close together (often one side of the street will be one zone and the other side of the street another zone) that most midtown locations work well for the average user. At the 4* level MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB are the most frequently bid zones.

Keep us updated on your progress and let us know if/when/how we can be of further help with this trip.

will try again each day -- through bb --

Can get a 4* TS with HW now at $294 - considering that, too

Be sure to check the Hotwire hotels that may be classified as a 4* in your zone on the BB web site. My experience is that HW is much more "generous" in their 4* ratings than Priceline and I've been a bit disappointed over the years on some of my HW wins (which is why I generally am more comfortable using PL). Good luck!

Please provide the full details of the listing in question - the amenities showing with the HOTWIRE listing, the star rating, zone and price per night before taxes/fees - and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

I'm currently seeing a different 4* hotel in the Times Square zone then the one above (i did see that one earlier but currently the one i'm seeing is prices at $327/nite and has different amenities)

What is your maximum bid for a 4* hotel in TS at this time? As PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, wouldn't you sooner bid higher on PRICELINE before taking a $299/nite hotel thru HOTWIRE?

HOTWIRE does have a 3.5* in the Times Square zone for $269/nite which i'm guessing is the Room-Mate Grace... they have a pool (rare in NYC), the rate includes complimentary breakfast, and it gets good reviews with a 4.0/5.0 TA rating... if this is of any interest.

I think the posting that got moved back to PL thread was regarding a HW question -- that's why I started that one on HR---attempting to not mix the 2 on the PL site. I'll be sure to include either PL or HW in the description next time.

Thanks

9/7/12

tried these bids on PL for a 4* for 10/13-16

$210, TS - no

$213, TS, CI - no

#220, TS, CI, LIC - no

$222, TS, CI, LIC, LES - no

$225, TS, CI, LIC, LES, UES - no

$228, TS, CI, LIC, LES, UES, HK - - no

-- stopped at this point because I realized that HK now has a 4* and I don't want that one. Too bad that you can't retract an area to continue bidding. (Better bidding PL map doesn't show a 4* for HK, but PL website does)

The only 4* in the Hell's Kitchen area that has been reported is Ink48. Given the very small map area, I don't believe there's another 4* in that zone (and I don't think there more than a handful of hotels in that zone in general.)

Would the potential Room Mate Grace noted above be of interest?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thanks for the suggestions. I dont' think I want Room-Mate Grace -- at least not yet. I think I'll keep bidding for a couple more days the same way, then I might change something --maybe add an area or two. Not sure what my max price is --because I have the plane tickets and have to have a room! I'll keep posting my bids.
