Cwalkin Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Hi,We are two families, 2 adults w/1 5year old, and 2 adults with a 3 & 5 year old traveling to Central California on 8/11-8/12. We are looking to stay in either Morry bay or Pismo Beach in a 3*+ hotel. Retail prices for these rooms according to BiddingHelper.com.com is $219. What would you recommend I start bidding? Should I bid in one area (morro bay) at a time, then move to the other (pismo beach)? Thanks in adnave for your help
Cwalkin Posted July 20, 2012 Author Report Posted July 20, 2012 I put in a bid of $50 for both areas and was rejected. Any advice?

Any advice? With retail rates at $200+ a bid of $50 doesn't seem like a high probability bet. Please follow-up your previous Priceline California thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay, then reply here and we'll have a closer look at your trip above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. Cwalkin Posted July 25, 2012 Author Report Posted July 25, 2012 Wow, another user got a 3* in Morro Bay for $90 last month. I'm up to $135 for a 3* without success for Morro Bay & Pismo Beach. Also up to $80 on a 2 1/2* without success.
thereuare Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Wow, another user got a 3* in Morro Bay for $90 last month.Again, rates are date specific... the win you're referring to was for June (possibly lower seasonal rates than August??) but was also for a Wednesday nite. Assuming the areas you're bidding are 'weekend retreats' for those within driving distance, you're solo Saturday nite will cost more. As well, in some areas that get a lot of weekend business, hotels don't like to sell a solo Saturday nite arrival since if they're at near or full occupancy they may down the road need to turn away somebody looking for a full weekend stay (since they have availability for Friday nite but the room is filled on Saturday with the solo nite they sold to you)My guess is that you're going to need to be in the $150-$170 range to be successful at a 3* hotel for these dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll try to assist further. Cwalkin Posted July 28, 2012 Author Report Posted July 28, 2012 I'm going to go up to $150, then try for 2* rooms
thereuare Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 If the 2.5*/2* bidding fails, or as an alternative to 2* bidding, HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Holiday Inn Express Grover Beach-Pismo Beach for $185/nite. A little more then your current $150 budget, but perhaps you could justify the added expense since it includes breakfast (at least $20 per family per day in savings if you were to each out??) and this rate is available when including the kids, so no worries about PRICELINE only guaranteeing double occupancy. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know if you want to pursue the property above.
