Margie Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Needed 2 rooms for 5 nights while attending the NY International Gift Fair August 17-22. Placed MANY bids all starting at $110 maxing out at $135, strategies included star levels from 2.5 in Chelsea, MSG, Downtown , to 3.5 stars in MTW and Downtown, to 4 star in ESB, MTE, MTW, CPS, Chelsea, Soho and Downtown. While unsuccessfully bidding $115 for 3.5 MTW and Downtown I received a counter offer if I added $40. I was pretty sure only an additional $20 would be needed to make the bid, so I rejected the offer and continued bidding the re-bid zones in $5 increments. Finally landed Club Quarters Wall Street 3.5 stars with a bid of $135 per night (which averaged $164 per night including taxes and priceline fees.) Current rate for those dates on the hotel’s site is $195 (or $227 with tax)Pleased with the bid, it’s tough to get 2 rooms for a longer stay. Will ask for a room a bit larger than the "Standard" on the website but will be happy with whatever we are assigned, no problem commuting up to Midtown for the gift show as we are very familiar with NYC.Placed all tries and winning bid through the PRICELINE links on betterbidding.com – thank you for everything you provide here!
thereuare Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Congratulations on your success! Glad to see you're pleased with the deal you received and this should be convenient enough for your needs. If you're looking for a pizza restaurant downtown (it's a restaurant, not a slice shop), i recommend this place fairly often on the board... reasonable price for the quality, although drinks are pricey. Stick with the rectangular 'grandma' style of pie:Adrienne's Pizza Bar54 Stone StNew York 10004Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding. Margie Posted July 15, 2012 Author Report Posted July 15, 2012 Thanks for the pizza suggestion, much appreciated! Any tips for a sit-down breakfast spot? Nothing fancy required but more than a grab & go. Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Sorry, can't help with any breakfast suggestions... i'm seldom in the city at breakfast time, and in the event i am, it's never downtown (nor near the convention center). It's never to far of a walk to a diner, but you can also get great breakfast spaecial at the bodegas which although your egg sandwich or bagle and coffee for $2.50 or less will come in a brown paper bag, many have seating areas upstairs or downstairs that you can take your food to sit down and eat. Margie Posted July 18, 2012 Author Report Posted July 18, 2012 Thanks - good suggestion! I have also discovered there is a Financier a block from the hotel, that should work too.
Yinka Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 I stayed here April 7-8, 2011 when I got married at City Hall on 4/8. I won Priceline bid for 95 a night
