Plan to book 2 rooms for one night later this week in Augusta. So far $40 has been rejected for 3* in Washington Rd area and 3.5* in Downtown (riverfront). Didn't see any recent history on this board. Anybody had any luck this summer on PL in Augusta?

Also, does PL still send you an option to extend your stay during a visit (I may have to stay 2 nights but won't know till we are there)? Seems like I've recd. this offer in "off the beaten path" southern towns like Tallahassee, Jacksonville, etc. I realize it would be at the option of the hotel - just want to see if people are still getting these offers.

Comments appreciated. (yes I used the PRICELINE link from this site - :) )

Also, does PL still send you an option to extend your stay during a visit...

Yes, this is still an offered option but it's not shown 100% of the time, and even when it is, there is no assurance that you will be able to extend the stay. PRICELINE may come back and tell you that no rooms are available at any price OR that a room is available but only at $xx, and you then have the option to accept or reject the higher price.

Also, keep in mind that you can only extend the stay for up to the same number of nites as your original reservation. So if you win one nite, you can only extend one nite, not two. Also, you must extend both rooms... not just one of them.

What is the date you're currently bidding for?

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

Are you familiar with and using your re-bid zones? At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones... at the 3* level ONE re-bid zone.

Using MAPS and HOTELS.com is there anything near where you want to be within your desired star rating and budget? I see in the North zone HOTWIRE has what i'm guessing to be the Sheraton for $95/nite, but that's not that much of a discount vs. the hotel direct price of $109.

Not familiar with the term "re-bid" zone but I did figure out that if one zone has a higher star rating available than others, you can select one of those other zones and bid again. Thanks for the intel on the Sheraton - i saw the price on HW but didn't deduce which hotel.

thanks for the help, Big Blue. Mildly surprised that rooms in Augusta wouldn't be more widely available at greater discounts in mid-summer. No worries, sometimes the deals just aren't there.

What did you end up doing for this nite? Please check for and use the links in our Support Page for your hotel direct purchases when PRICELINE or HOTWIRE don't' work out.

You should really read up on Priceline Re-Bidding Explained as it's the single best tip that will help with your bidding and getting the best deal possible going forward. I think you 'sort of' got it by adding the other zones, but it's important to note that you're looking for zones that only contain star levels lower than the star level you're bidding. If you're bidding 3* and a zone does not have 3* hotels, but does contain 3.5* hotel, that is NOT a re-bid zone (since the star rating you choose is the lowest you're willing to accept and PRICELINE will always try to upgrade you if possible)

Ended up walking up to Hampton Inn on Washington Rd. The rate (I think it was $89/nt) was much cheaper than anything online or rack rates. This was simply a case of luck. We inquired at another location (can'tt remember the name but it is on a hill overlooking I-20 on Washington Rd., north side of the interstate) - they wanted $159/nt. So we went on down the road to Hampton. Booked 3 rooms at this rate.
