On my very first Priceline bid, I think I scored pretty nicely with the $85 win on the Hilton Washington (1919 Connecticut Ave). I booked it on 6.14.12 for a few days hovering around the hot time 4th of July (and I do mean hot, yikes!!!) and the lowest priced room I could find online was $191, so I am happy! I am traveling in the morning from NYC so we'll see what kind of shape the hotel is in. I will be with my 6 year old so I'm hoping the train is easy enough to get to on foot without dreading the walk. I haven't been to WDC in years so my perception of the scale of the city is warped right now.

We also got hooked up with a White House tour which I understand you cannot bring ANYTHING into but your phone and ID, so we will have to trek back and forth to the hotel--I am hoping that doesn't add up to hours of wasted time commuting.

Can't wait.

Just a follow up now that we're home...

The hotel was great, I think four blocks from the Dupont Circle station. Plenty of food all around the station, in the "spokes" of the streets coming off of the circle, and on the avenue leading up to the hotel. We had a definite thing for this yummy frozen yogurt shop on Connecticut leading to the hotel, we went there sometimes twice a day. YUM.

Other than that, the view from the room they gave us was outstanding, on the 6th floor looking toward the monuments. The room was not ready when we got there so we trekked out, but the person at the desk told me the room had great views especially for the fireworks. With the threat of storms and the temperatures over 100 degrees all week, my son and I were not that eager to spend the afternoon and evening sweltering in the park waiting for the fireworks so we hit the hotel pool instead. When the fireworks started we ran upstairs and had a perfect view from the window. The hotel had a viewing party and had a giant screen tv set up on the terrace to simulcast PBS broadcast of the fireworks w/music and it looked fairly crowded.

I'd say this is a good bet especially if you are used to walking (we are from NYC so walking and trains are no big deal) and can get a good price like this. The walk to the hotel from the station on Connecticut is a pretty steep hill but you can take a couple of the side streets which will lead you to the east end of the hotel and those hills are definitely more easy to take. We also discovered another nice area of restaurants and things a couple of blocks over, including a little 7-11 where it was more residential.

As for the hotel, the wifi was free in the lobby but more than $10 in the room. Annoying especially since this is a convention hotel. The bathroom was nice with a pocket door. The shower could have used more pressure and definitely a better showerhead. What is it with these hotels and the showerheads???? I think my kitchen faucet sprayer function would have provided a better force! Also, the room DOES NOT have a refrigerator! It did have a safe.

Overall great pick and a great trip.
