mvcruiser Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 This site is quite amazing! I hope someone can guide me a bit. I need one night in Ft. Lauderdale, 11/11/05, near the cruise port, so I am thinking downtown. I usually stay at Embassy Suites, but am not wedded to it. I WOULD like 3* (or better). How does one choose between PL and HW? Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!Priceline is usually a little bit cheaper, Hotwire gives you a little more control over identifying the hotel you will receive.Do you have an expected budget in mind? mvcruiser Posted July 24, 2005 Author Report Posted July 24, 2005 Thanks for the welcome!I would like to keep it at or below $100; I have paid full price ($160) at Embassy Suites when travelling with others and that wasn't so unreasonable. But travelling alone, I have a tighter budget, and also more flexiblility!I am cruising on the 12th, and have read many posts about zones close to the port. Since I am not looking for a "vacation" hotel, it seems I have a broad choice, though downtown gets the most votes.I am also curious about timing... This particular weekend is just prior to Thanksgiving. Do you think this will have any impact on availablility and/or pricing? And what are your thoughts on bidding this early? I am a bit neurotic about travel planning and like to wrap everything up well in advance, but don't know if this is TOO early. Thanks again for the help!
thereuare Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Are you also willing to considering an Airport hotel (or just Downtown?)It's probably too early for Downtown, but maybe not for the Airport area... either way it doesn't hurt to try as long as you don't overbid.Let us know the zone(s) you are willing to accept and we'll supply a strategy to follow. thereuare Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I'll also add that if you're concerned about getting 'something' you can book the Sheraton Yankee Trader for $106/nite and it's cancellable up to 72 hours before check-in date. mvcruiser Posted July 25, 2005 Author Report Posted July 25, 2005 According to my research, downtown, beach or airport would do. I'll need access to food, but a 3* is more likely to have some kind of restaurant, even at the airport, yes?I tried your link to the Sheraton Yankee Trader but it didn't work. I checked online at a couple of sites and found internet rates starting at $155 and non-refundable. Where did you find that $106 rate? I found the Marriott FLL North for $95, but also non-refundable.
thereuare Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 What happens when you click the above link? ("page can not be displayed, a session time-out, etc?) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mvcruiser Posted July 26, 2005 Author Report Posted July 26, 2005 It opens a new window with the following error message: "The connection was refused when attempting to contact click.linksysnergy.com"I use mozilla as default browser... With IE, I get "The page cannot be displayed." (I tried both ways.)Hope this is helpful. Looking forward to your suggestions; much appreciated!
thereuare Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 Do you use any 'internet security' or other similar software? Are you able to choose this property (and get to their webpage) by selecting it from the drop down menu (lefthand side) on our Easy Search for Easy Click? mvcruiser Posted July 27, 2005 Author Report Posted July 27, 2005 Sorry to report, but I have no luck with EasyClickTravel, either in Mozilla or IE. I can make all the selections, but cannot access the linked page, even with control key. I have no internet security programs (I think they're EVIL!); I run Microsoft Antispyware Beta, but disabled it and still no luck. Rebooted, tried again, still nothing...
cntrfieldsmom Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 FYI, I couldn't use the Yankee link either. I also turned of ad blocker.
thereuare Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 Does this Orbitz link work for either of you? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
jluff Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 The links work fine for me. I think it may be your computer settings.
mvcruiser Posted July 27, 2005 Author Report Posted July 27, 2005 I suspect you may be right. I just tried the links from my laptop and they seem to work. Wish I could figure out what the difference is! I try to keep them as similar to each other as possible, to avoid this kind of problem. In the meanwhile, I will try to use the other computer for my visits here :)(Anyone with a clue about which setting might be throwing me off??)Thanks all!
thereuare Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 I'll look into it over the next few days and ask some questions of some people and will try to follow-up. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
cntrfieldsmom Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 I disabled adaware, Norton internet security and norton antivirus. Still no luck. I don't need the links but thought I could help solve the problem, guess not.
crazycatlady Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Are you running windows XP? The default firewall gets enabled when you install service pack 2, which can get installed automatically if you have automatic updates enabled. Is your computer connected to a router? Routers often have firewalls as well.
cntrfieldsmom Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Yes XP, I have auto update. I do not have the windows firewall enabled, only Norton.
mvcruiser Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 I have SP2 installed on both my XP systems, and have tried firewall on and off; no difference. I do have a router, but my laptop also uses that and it doesn't have this problem. I have Norton Antivirus on both.I still would really appreciate any bidding help (back to my original issue!) :)
cntrfieldsmom Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 mv,What are the current rates for the hotels in the zones you are interested in? Use the following list for some hotels (as a start, these may not be all of them, read the page intro too) hotel list
cntrfieldsmom Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Thereuare,I don't know if this means anything in regards to the link problem....Could it be a spyware problem? When I clicked a couple links in the Vegas thread I got suspisious url's. one was a "click.linksynergy" and one a "http://www.qksrv.net/click-1492259-10358596" I ran my adaware pro hoping it would help but it did not.
